Mom turns son in for crime
RAVENNA, Ohio (AP) - A mother did some detective work on her own and turned in her son for his suspected role in the vandalism of 67 gravestones at a cemetery, police said.
Police said the woman saw a television news report during which a reporter discussed the crime and mentioned that a red and blue bicycle pedal and a crank were found at the scene.
She checked out her 14-year-old son's bike in her garage and noticed the parts missing. She called police, brought her son in and he later confessed.
"She certainly could have realized it, talked to her son about it and ended it there, but she came forward," police Chief Randall McCoy said. "She's a pretty good parent to do this."
The woman's son and Kenny Stemple, 20, of Kent, were charged with vandalism. They're accused of causing more than $7,000 worth of damage in St. Mary's Cemetery.
