He deliberately sang the songs different every time. He thought of them more as poetry than music.

Belinda Carlisle (even after the GoGo Girls' meltdown and voice lessons, I still don't think she improved much)

Kim Carnes (Sorry, when you have a raw voice like that, it's still hard to listen to her)

Tom Jones (Again, sorry--I could NEVER stand Tom's appeal--as far as I could see, he never had anything I wanted)

Julie Budd (I'm sure she was famous mainly for her resemblance to Barbra Streisand through the year, but her voice was never anything to write home about)
