Canada to be expanded by 400 square feet

At the airport in Montreal, there is a tape line on the floor and signs which declare that the other side of the tape line is the USA.

My apartment will soon have a tape line near the front door and declare that the majority of my apartment is sovereign Canadian territory. Inside my apartment, the word color will thereafter be spelled correctly: "colour" -- likewise for "favourite." Canadian currency will be used. US dollars can be used but the rate of exchange will be determined by local merchants (in theory).

Under NAFTA, no duty will charged on incoming goods under $20 CAD in value.

We haven't settled on a name for our province but Kurtario is a leading contender. Suggestions are still welcome. Kurtario (based on the native term for 'Kurt's area') will be Canada's 11th Province.

We also want to pick an appropriate date on which to transfer sovereignity. December 11th will be the 56th anniversary of Newfoundland's signing of terms of union between Canada and Newfoundland, and seems as good a day as any. And it plays on the 11 motif.

The ceremony will include christening the province by breaking a bottle of Boreal on the threshold of the front door. Followed by a toast, the singing of the national anthem and an all day feast (it's a Saturday). At the conclusion of the ceremonies, North America's largest country will be 400 square feet larger.

Oh, and the date? Dec. 8, the Pager Natal Day.
