Hey, DUers, you want better cable reception? Try this:
My reception has been okay, but never great. Actually, C-Span and the Sci Fi Channel were pretty bad. But today I picked up my portable phone and called in Direct T.V. to ask for prices and wouldn't you know it? Three hours later my cable reception on my t.v. is better than it's been in ten years!

LOL! Of course, the reception may be better due to the aluminium in my hat. Who knows?

1. We have Directv and it's awful on rainy days, so I guess they've got
us all over a barrel. :hi:

4. I was working at DirecTV for a while
Doing tech support over the phone until I found another programmming job. Put Rain-X or a plastic grocery bag over your dish. That will help.

7. I'm Delighted With My DirecTV...
The only interference I've ever experienced was due to EXTRA HEAVY downpours... but the normal everyday rain showers (or even the all-day rain showers) don't have any effect on my reception.

8. That's strange. We have had Dish for over three years,
initially up in Northern Idaho and now over on the Western Cascades foothills. I have only had to clean the dish of one time in all these winters. I can count on one hand the times the signal has dropped and the system has always recovered in less than five minutes. Whenever some jerk knocks down a pole out here we might be without elec. and the cable is interrupted, but we still have tv with our generator. Cable sucks period.

3. Yeah I would be heartbroken if my SciFi Channel went out
just kidding (not a SciFi fan) but that is funny that the reception immediately got better.

Comcast is a great company. Believe me, it was a coincidence.

6. I want Sundance Channel dammit!
Charter doesn't carry it here. If the dish does I'm going satellite next month.

And we live in So Cal so rain ain't a problem.

9. We had a problem a few years ago with cable.
Some mornings, we were getting absolutely horrible reception. We had a technician out who was about to give up when he noticed a somewhat corroded outdoor connection. Turns out, our sprinklers were hitting the wiring and every few mornings it messed up the connection for several hours.

Dish & DirecTV are both better than cable though, imo. If your dish is pointing correctly and not blocked by trees, etc, you virtually never lose your signal. The only times we lose ours are during the absolutely worst thunderstorms (briefly) or if really wet heavy snow sticks to the dish, in which case we knock it off and are fine again.
