Seriously.

There is no better band out there right now. Yeah, Amnesiac sucked, but they just lost their way for a bit, and now they're right back on track.

They're musical geniuses.

But so were the "Beatles," at one time.

They've grown- a LOT.

6. still think the bends is their best and most underrated album
i like em all, but amnesiac-which to me was kind of half-assed (another version of the 'the morning bell" and a bunch of songs that had been floating around in superior demo form for almost 4 years at that point) it was just the leftovers from kid a

but ok computer, the bends, and hail to the thief are brilliant
and pablo honey was a pretty impressive debut

19. A gazillion bands.
But not Radiohead. It's actually easier to list bands I DON'T like--there's probably 20 of them, and Radiohead is one of them. I also don't like Elliott Smith--let the FLAMES BEGIN!! :) :nuke:

I am feeling better, thanks. I got to meet a hot famous guy last night, and that's always nice. :) (See my thread from earlier today.)

30. I must admit, and I've posted this many times before.....
That Radiohead has exactly ONE great song: "Electioneering." It's the only song in their catalog that ROCKS. The rest of it is glacial-paced muzak, good for a decent cough syrup buzz but not for much else. Plus, when any one band/artist acheives consensus approval despite not being all that great, I get suspicious that the PR departments at most major labels are getting too powerful. Radiohead is a triumph of target marketing, not art.

But if they'd do more "Electioneering"s, they'd might actually be okay.

14. I saw them in 2001, when they were touring for Kid A & Amnesiac
It was a beautiful occasion. They played all the really good songs off each album

(except PABLO HONEY lololololol)

It is important to keep in mind that Amnesiac is little more than a glorified B-sides/outtakes collection

In that context, it is actually quite good

15. When they could actually be bothered to write songs they were great
Now that all they seem to be able to do is get together, noodle around with instruments and sounds, add some cryptic lyrics and when they perform act like they have better things to do.

I own every Radiohead album and saw them live after each and every album. After Pablo Honey and the Bends and even after OK Computer they were great and charismatic and tight as can be as a live band and their songs were brilliant. Then when they decided that they were "artistes" they just lost me. Everything after OK Computer is a total case of The Emporer's New Clothes.

No Thanks. If I want avante experimental music I'll listen to bands that have been slugging away doing that type of thing from the beginning. Not a band that gathered up a large fanbase writing catchy brit pop/rock songs but then decided that they were too good for that and that a few Matmos or Tortoise records somehow made them an experimental band.

21. Not even close. Hail To The Thief is more of the same....
Random noodling and sound experimentation. Which is great from bands that excel at that. I don't think that Radiohead does. I don't expect them to make The Bends 2 or OK Computer 2. But I expect them to not throw the entire concept of songwriting as they had established previously out the window.

42. You've got to be fucking kidding me.
Hail to the Thief brought the guitar back into Radiohead.

If I had to describe Hail to the Thief, I would say it's a combination of Amnesiac (an eh album), The Bends, and OK Computer. There's 0, Zip of that ultra-weird (but awesome) synth experiment called "Kid A".

39. Pablo Honey (the album with "Creep") sucked.
I'm glad that Radiohead moved beyond Pablo Honey and "Creep".

Everyone who thinks Radiohead is some kind of whiny emo band has apparently only listened to Pablo Honey, which was just that. More likely, they've only listened to "Creep"... which for good reason is their only song to get enormous play from "mainstream" radio stations. Absolute crap.

As for their other, much, much, much better albums...

The Bends was a catchy power pop happy kind of album. Some argue it's their strongest album, despite the really awful dissonance.

OK Computer was their "let's pump up the synth" album. Very solid... like The Bends, lots of Radiohead fans say it is their best.

Kid A was their experimental, weird-out album. One of my favorites, ever... it's all like one big song strung out onto multiple tracks. The best song is "Idioteque", which a lot of people believe is a parody of dance music. It works both as an awesome techno song and good parody.

Amnesiac was the cutting room floor of Kid A. It's a bit like that mini-album the Flaming Lips recorded while they did Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (or maybe it was while they recorded Zaireeka... ah well) Still some awesome songs there. Amnesiac really gave some hintings as to what was coming up on Hail to the Thief.

Hail to the Thief is just awesome. Freaking awesome. Radiohead finally brought together all of the great poppy elements of The Bends, experimental parts of Kid A and OK Computer, and the cool prouction on Amnesiac.

24. If you're limiting your set of choices to ONLY
bands who fit the following criteria, then you might be correct:

a) the band MUST be on a major label
b) the band MUST be British
c) the band MUST sell gazillions of records
d) the band MUST have possibly the most effective PR team bhind them of any major label act
e) the band MUST be named Radiohead

So, within those very narrow parameters, then, yes, Radiohead is the best band in the world right now.

Coincidentally, I'm listening to Amnesiac right now. Awesome album.

I like the "Kid A" remix of "Morning Bell" better, but Amnesiac is only slightly weaker than Kid A, which is my second favorite Radiohead album (behind Hail to the Thief).

If you want to listen to a Radiohead album that did suck.... check out Pablo Honey. :puke:

Read the lyrics again. Pretty amazing. Brilliantly engineered and very creative. Time will tell if they are more than just good.
PS My take on people who don't like Radio Head and Elliot Smith is that they just don't like the most adult oriented alternativer rock. They are more comfortablwe with musical simplicity (repetition, few chord changes, no half notes, linear-comforting lyrics). None of that is adult centered alternative rock.

I'm not into hero worshiping in spite of my avatar.

And though I think that, right now, RH is the best Pop band on the planet I don't think that they qualify for god status.

I mean, it's not like they're the Clash or something.
