When did turn signals become optional?
Is it just me? It drives me crazy when someone doesn't use them. Does it require too much energy? Do they not know that they are turning? Of course the ones that drive me even crazier are the ones who wait until they start the turn to put on their signal.

Should I just get over it?

1. My car's signals aren't working properly
After the turn BOTH my signals and headlights go off. UGH

Stupid problem I know, but I can't fix them until I get the money, so I use them sparingly LOL...but otherwise I do use them all the time.

So, goes to show some people have technical problems!

3. turn signals...hhhmm....
I don't use my turn signals when no one else is around or when I am in a designated turning lane or when I am passing on a 2 lane highway (cuz obviously I'm not gonna drive down the wrong side of the road for the rest of my trip)
But yes, those people who hit their brakes and turn without a signal (especially in heavy traffic), and those that cut ya off, and the dimwits who slow down to like 2 mph then start turning and turn their signal on are very very frustrating. I am not one of those...

4. Being from L.A. Cali.
I can tell you, that if, you put on your turn signal, to say, change lanes, you can forget it, its never gonna happen, you will be cut off and never get where you are going. the only time using a turn signal is permissible is when your actually making a turn.

Hope this helps!

5. Actually ..I keep a bunch of bricks in my passenger seat and ....
...if they are turning left and don't signal until the light changes, I throw a brick at them. (well, at least in my Fantasy World)

"I feel bad for those people who paid $50,000 for that Mercedes or SUV -- they don't seem to have working turn signals!"

9. I like that idea
I've always thought about having signs in my car that I can hold up that say things like "Thanks for using your turn signal", or "Thanks for tailgateing", or "Thanks for cutting me off"

22. To heck with signs
I want a little guy that pops up from the roof with a large weapon. That, I think, will get someone's attention.

10. In Boston it's like throwing down the glove
In the Boston area a turn signal is used to issue a challenge. A duel too see who can get that position will follow the issuance of such a challenge.

Driving, it's not just a sport, it's an adventure.

11. Atlanta
We would use hem in Atlanta but if we use them to move over a lane on the highway to exit all the cars start passing us on the right so they can beat us to the exit.

12. Two men were killed last week because a twit didn't use them.
Turning left on a road, the driver of a school bus following didn't have enough time to stop and ran into on-coming traffic. Two men in a tow truck were killed on the scene.
From what I understand you should activate the turn signal 100 yards before the turn. You should also use them "when nobody else is around" because you may be mistaken.

15. I was thinking the same thing today
I was waiting to cross the street. Big ass truck with no lights on, no blinker, then he turns. It's a busy street with no light, just a crosswalk so chances to cross are few and far between.

17. Other driving peeves
When did speed limits become suggestions? Drives me nuts when some asshat runs up on my bumper while I'm going 30 on a wet, tilted, curving offramp that goes into a TUNNEL that's clearly posted 30 MPH. Unless the driver behind me is in an ambulance, a police car, or a fire truck, or is currently ON FIRE, I can assume that person just needs to step back and slow the hell down.

Or when did crosswalks become free kill zones? Yes, I'm one of those people who slows down to make a right turn at a light, enough to see around the corner that some suicidal pedestrian hasn't shoved a baby carriage out in front of my two thousand pound death hammer. I have had pedestrians walk INTO MY CAR at crosswalks several times. Five seconds of my time for someone's life? Yeah, I'll take it, every time.

Or when did it become necessary to block driveways and intersections while waiting for a red light? We've all seen these people who don't check that there is room for their car to fit in stopped traffic on the other side of a crossing, and end up with their trunk hanging out until the light cycles through. I am willing to bet most of them are driven there by some impatient jerk blowing the horn at them to go through a yellow light. That guy blowing his horn was probably the same guy honking at me today for not pulling my car to rest in front of a driveway with cars waiting to come out of it.

In my life I have gotten exactly one ticket, and that was for riding a bicycle without a light. I have never been in an accident - not driving, not even have I been hit by another driver. It's not that I'm a weenie of a driver - I've gotten a behemoth of a Buick to stop safely when a stuck valve caused it to accelerate to about 100 mph on the freeway. I've gone offroad to avoid being hit by a truck. I've turned a full 360 in a hydroplaning muscle car, in an intersection, horn blowing, and got the car under control and back through the light with nobody getting hurt. I can drive like nobody's business, I just choose not to drive like an idiot. I am tired, tired, TIRED of people bitching about those of us who follow the laws and observe courtesies on the road, drive safely and defensively, and choose to spend a few more seconds thinking and being patient rather than risk someone's property, safety, or even their life.

Geez. I guess I was more steamed than I thought. :-D Use them blinkers, folks :-D

18. I'm glad I am not the only one.
I decided about 6 mpnths ago that I was no longing going to be in a hurry. I try to drive the speed limit as much as possible. I admit there are times when I speed. Sometimes out on the highway I like to go real fast, but especially in residential neighborhoods, I try to respect the laws.

And here I was thinking the newer cars weren't equipped with them anymore...

Yeah, I've had a number of near misses because the idiots either didn't have them on, or had them on when they weren't turning...:grr:
