24. I like good old fashioned candy canes.
Regular peppermint, red-and-white ones. Any other flavor doesn't seem "Christmasy" to me. I also love ribbon candy and peppermint chews. And homemade fudge! That's the best candy of all.

Oh - and did I mention peppermint bark and almond bark? I love that too.

I've been looking for a Charleston Chew for someone else. I'm sponsoring a resident at a home for children/young adults for Christmas. Her favorite kind of candy is Charleston Chews, and I'd really like to get one or a few for her.

A standard size candy cane only has 60 calories. The mini ones are only 15 calories apiece.

Does anyone remember the televangelist skit by Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans on In Living Color? It was a scream. They were selling forgiveness for sins, and having a two for one special on sins beginning with "B." Carrey called himself "The Reverend Doctor Somebody or other" and wore a blue leisure suit.

Because seriously, I love the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books.

Do you ever read books from your childhood? And do you insist upon having the old printings you remember? Sometimes they "update" the books in later printings, and I hate that.

I absolutely love love love combing used bookstores. There is no greater place on earth than a used bookstore. I love the smell of the books, I love the feel of the books, I love the air in a used bookstore. And of course, there is no feeling in the world like coming across a real treasure. I could spend whole days in the bookstore.

137. Exactly.
You get an image in your head of the scenery, the people - even the "soundtrack." When it becomes in reality a movie, it always spoils something.

Did you ever read "That Was Then, This Is Now" as a teenager? It's one of the S.E. Hinton books. It was later turned into a movie, and they completely altered the ending. They altered the ending in such a way as to alter the entire message of the book. It pissed me off.

142. Didn't read or see that one.
The miniseries they made of The Stand did have one moment/scene that was better in the movie than the book (incredibly rare, don't you agree)? Without giving anything away, but since you said you were familiar with the premise:

They change the way two characters meet. In the movie, one character is sitting on the hood of a car while behind him an entire city is smoldering in ruins. There are dozens of cars either empty or filled with the corpses of people who died trying to escape the plague.

He is playing his guitar and singing:

Don’t you understand what I’m tryin’ to say
Can’t you feel the fears I’m feelin’ today?
If the button is pushed, there’s no runnin’ away
There’ll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
Take a look around you boy
It’s bound to scare you boy

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

It is an absolutely brilliant scene, and the actor/musician played it soooooo perfectly. Fit the emotional timbre of both the character and the scene and the setting itself flawlessly.

I get goosebumps just *remembering* that scene.
