I am now heavily involved with a woman I've known all my life. Our mothers are best friends, we have shared memories of grade school, camping and being kids. We did a lot of growing up together. Her family moved away when she was 9. We re-met a while ago and WOW. We both have had bad marriages but I've never been more in love. We're both 49 yo so it ain't teenage hormones. It was a little weird at first but was also so natural.

On balance, go for it, but sneak up on the subject, that will avoid (hopefully) awkward possibilities. Be prepared for either eventuality.
