yer Thawts on "Rednecks"
I was channel surfing the other might and came across Jeff Foxworthy's classic Redneck comedy.
I actually know people like the ones he describes.
what are your feelings on this classification of our population?

3. On my family? Well, they're good people.
Life is a little different in the rural south and not always in a bad way. Unfortunately, a high percentage of them are Bush voters and not necessarily all that cultured.

I am one and am related to them. What do you want to know?

love dearly. Just don't talk politics or religion with them and all is well.

Let's not leav out my favorite cousing who looks and talks just like Jeff Foxworthy (but is a bit more enlightened than your average redneck)

Vote Dem, grow pot, love NASCAR, country music and muscle cars.

But again, I DO live in California, and these guys live in an little known town called "Boulder Creek."

9. Asheville is a cool area. Chapel Hill as well. I have a brother in college
at UNC. Sadly, he's republican. We spent a few hours at Thanksgiving in spirited political discussion. That was...intersting.

8. I'm not a redneck, but I play one on TV
When we're in a seedy bar or dealing with hillbilly neighbors or around rednecks for whatever reason, my friends and family invariably nominate me to handle all negotiations.

I tuck a cigarette behind my ear, spit frequently, and preferably have a beer in my hand (and you';d be amazed at how tolerant rednecks are of foreign or microbrews, though usually I'm drinking Keystone).

Most importantly: I turn on my secret weapon -- THE TEXAS TWANG.

I can go from well-mannered, cultured elitist to Good Ol' Boy in about three seconds flat.

15. Always felt there are two cardinal rules re: cowboys or rednecks
1 - Don't fuck with their hat. You can get shot for screwing with a cowboys hat. Kind of like fucking with someone's car in California, or messing with their shoes in NYC. You just DON'T DO IT. Oh, and for the ladies, if you take a cowboy's hat off and put it on your head in joke, that means you're sleeping with them that night. Just a warning :)

2 - Don't act like you're better than them. They're sick of this, and they can spot patronizing behavior a mile away. Just treat them like anyone else.

24. Back in 1971, I was hitch hiking to see Alice Cooper
and ended up in front of a bar out in a hick town between here and there.....

I was wearing one of those New Years Eve Top Hats and an Army Jacket with a Keep On Trucking caricature emblazoned on my back...

I also had hair down past the my neck and hanging around in front...

I was a child Hippie.

So there we were, Bob A and I headed out for a great Friday night, we were about 14 at the time, when out of the bar burst a couple of local rednecks with eye glassed over by a few too many Rolling Rocks,. They started whistling and calling us girls....

So, to make a disturbing moment short, they came at us and were going to cut our hair with their knifes. We took off, ran across the street and up the road to the Police Station....

The cops, naturally, said the boys were just letting off some steam, and by the way, what are you boys doing hitchhiking here in my city....

Phone calls to our parents got us out of the mess but we never got to see Alice Cooper that night...

Yea, I hate rednecks....
