Does anyone else appreciate Nanci Griffith like I do?
Right before we went to war in Iraq, Nanci Griffith used her first live shot at the Grand Ol Opry to sing an anti war song.

remember this was when they were beating the crap out of people who refused to stand up for that crappiest song of all times, Proud to BE an American.....

She sacrificed what should have been her introduction to a wider country audience to speak her mind. A person of conviction.

If you ever get a chance to see her live, do it. She is a folk singer songwriter who still writes and sing songs about the troubles ordinary people have to face everyday just to get by.....

Folk music without a sledgehammer message coming down on your head.....

1. she's great!
I have a videotape of Austin City Limits with Nanci and Iris Dement. It was a great show; haven't watched it in a long time. Think I might break it out tonight. Thanks for reminding me! :hi:

6. I already knew Nanci
But the show clued me in to Iris. I think she's great too, but I wish she was more prolific.

3. Definitely...
She's always been a closet favorite of mine... I like that she defies strict categorization (too twangy for the folk crowd, too granola for the country fans).

Undoubtedly one of the most underrated triple-threats out there!

7. I love her
Have seen her live too, and love her outspokeness. Have many of her albums going back to the mid-80's... she's one of the best.

8. Oh - she is fabulous. Beautiful voice, beautiful music, beautiful person.
And I could have pointed out that so many of her songs move me to tears in another thread, but I didn't even think of it until I read this post.

Is This All There Is?

I have traveled far to be sitting here with you,
And I will leave this place alone:
That's a sad and simple truth.
There is so little time and so much to say.
And I'll be none the wiser,
When I leave you here today.

Is this all there is? I wanted so much more.
The gold in those hills, the silver of the moors.
And now that I'm here, looking you head on.
The treasure that I left behind, is all I'll ever miss
Oh. the blame for losing love is blind,
Is this all there is?

It always stops me cold everytime I hear your name.
The friends that we have shared,
Know I'll never love the same.
I still hear your voice echo through my days.
Yet it never breaks my stride,
We would always end this way.

Is this all there is? I wanted so much more.
The gold in those hills, the silver of the moors.
And now that I'm here, looking you head on.
The treasure that I left behind, is all I'll ever miss
Oh. the blame for losing love is blind,
Is this all there is?

We were really something, just holdin' hands and walkin',
Now, no amount of talkin' could lead this love a place to go.

Is this all there is? I wanted so much more.
The gold in those hills, the silver of the moors.
And now that I'm here, looking you head on.
The treasure that I left behind, is all I'll ever miss
Oh. the blame for losing love is blind,
Is this all there is?

The blame for losing love is blind,
Is this all there is?

9. YES!!! She is wonderful and incredibly talented.
I remember the first time I heard her music in the late 70's ... The Once In A Blue Moon Album. I then saw her perform in a church basement in Harvard Square shortly after that. They had a small coffee house kinda thing on Friday nights and she played there. Very small, intimate crowd of less than 75 or so. It was amazing!

Even my kids love her music and they don't like much of what I listen to.
