She is in ICU for her 3rd week, but we hope she will be home for christmas (infected colon, burst, was bad for awhile). She missed thanksgiving at home with us and her 70th B-day was yesterday.

So what am I gonna do about it? Go see her after work again :)

I hope your mom comes home safe and in good health for Christmas. I had to go through Christmas without my dad (brain surgery) a couple years ago and it was horrible.

They gave her 50/50 to make it out of surgery. Now she is sitting up in a chair but cannot talk with trach tube in and such. My wife and daughter are leaving next week for CA for christmas with her family. I was going to go but staying here (I live next door to mom) she may be home by then and will need help.

So I will be here 3 weeks on vacation. I will miss my 3yr old on christmas day, but we will make up for it. I insisted the wife go - has not had a christmas at home in 8 years and daughter is so looking forward to seeing them all again (she spends 3 weeks there every few months).

So christmas eve I will be here on DU with my friends. Sad? Nope. Mom is gonna make it, and that is all I could hope for this year. I bought a house this year, my first, my job is going good, mom is pulling through, family pulled closer together (we were close already). Lonely - maybe, but overall I can't bitch about it.

I have the important things I need in life and when I wake up with the dog on christmas morning and my empty bottle of rum I will be just fine - it is still a wonderful life.

but the next time i have the ouija board out I'll tell her you said hello.
