Am I the only person who's never heard of Dimebag Darrell?
Not to be callous, but why do I get the feeling that I'm the last person on Earth who's ever heard of the guy? Is it a bad thing that I never would have heard the name Dimebag Darrell if he hadn't died?

1. Don't feel bad
I've never heard of him either and I've got a 19 year old who loves music and he has never mentioned him to me.

3. No, I think most people didn't know who he was.
Pantera certainly didn't have all THAT many fans.

I don't see any reason why most people WOULD know him. And this is coming from someone that actually DOES listen to Pantera.

6. His music is a bit of an acquired taste...
If you like metal that makes you bleed profusely from both eyeballs for weeks at a time, he had you covered. But he was also a great guitar player, and came across as a very thoughtful fellow in several interviews.

9. I hadn't either.
It was interesting at work when one of the kids at work got a call from her bf & she kept on saying dimebag, dimebag. At first I thought she was talking about a dime bag of pot. No drug deals at work, please! (Or if you must, please share).:smoke:

10. I heard on the radio today that some in the MSM were comparing his
death with John Lennons. :( That's a bit of a stretch.

In which case it's not a stretch at all.

12. I knew him from Guitar magazines---not a pantera fan
although I did have one of their albums when I was a wee lad. But I mostly knew him from his numerous articles he wrote to help aspiring guitarists
:-(

15. No, don't feel bad,
I'm in my 40's and had no idea who he was or the band.

When I first heard the news that "Dimebag Darrel" was murdered, I thought to myself. "Good, no less drug dealer off the street.

I didn't know he was a musician. I'm glad the cop bagged the jerk who did him in, though.

17. Nope...I hadn't a clue, either.
I'd barely been aware of the previous existence of the band Pantera. So I couldn't name One of its members. If Darrell hadn't been shot and killed yesterday, I might have died still not knowing who he was or what he did.

19. I guess because there aren't many screamo fans here
Pantera isn't my cup o tea, either, but I did actually buy Great Southern Trendkill.

It sucks that some crazy steroid fanboy went lunatic and gunned down the band on stage because of Pantera's breakup.

20. I didn't know his name
Being involved in some of the music world for a while I would have thought I would have known who he is. Of course I knew of Pantera and heard some of their stuff, but didn't know the name of the guys in the band.
I love all different types of music, but some I never acquired a taste for. Thrash metal is one of those types. It would be like if someone told me a famous opera star passed away.

22. When Kurt Cobain died,
I felt about the same way and I am squarely in the middle of the generation that supposedly was most moved by his music. I had heard of Nirvana, but I couldn't name their band members to save my life. It didn't help that I couldn't stand their music.
