Civil Rights Suit Filed by Thong-Wearing Bush Protesters

Men Were Protesting Iraqi Prisoner Abuse By Recreating Photos

LANCASTER, Pa. -- There's nothing wrong with a thong. That's what some thong-wearing protesters contend.

Six men were busted in Lancaster County, Pa., over the summer, protesting a visit by President George W. Bush. Five of the six are now suing state and local authorities, contending their civil rights were violated.

The demonstrators stripped down to thong underwear and formed a human pyramid in what they said was a protest against the Iraq prison-abuse scandal at Abu Ghraib. Disorderly conduct charges against the protesters were dropped in October. The men were recreating an image from photos taken inside the prison near Baghdad in which Iraqi prisoners were abused by U.S. captors.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania alleges that the men were arrested to suppress their protest, which was held July 9.
