Poll question: Should the dog replace the donkey as the Democratic symbol?
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 12:24 PM by BurtWorm
Consideration 1: The donkey was chosen for the Democrats by caricaturist Thomas Nast, who was a Republican and meant it as an insult.

Consideration 2: That doesn't mean it has to be taken as an insult. Donkeys are famous for their stubbornness after all, which can be a positive trait in an age when the country is being dragged right.

Consideration 3: A lot of Democrats naturally refer to themselves as "dogs," i.e., yellow dogs, blue dogs, red dogs, Big Dogs.

Consideration 4: "Dog" can be an insult too.

Condideration 5: There is no consideration 5.

2. Depends on how a person looks at the Dem party.
witness:

Clinton was a puke enabler, in the name of good-natured bipartisanship. (doesn't he know that no good deed goes unpunished?)

"Won't surrender" Kerry quit out of Election 2004 before you could say "no paper trail".

DLC is too cowardly to want people like Michael Moore and others speaking for them.

Recent events have made me wonder: Why does the Dem party want to lose so many of its voter base? Are they really hyped up to see eternal repuke victories? I don't understand. Who does? I'd love to know. But I won't be voting Dem anytime soon if the pattern remains consistent, and I'm not cowardly enough to have not said that.

3. While the dog is a noble beast with sterling qualities

its loyality is such that it will tolerate being kicked, A LOT. And we get kicked enough already.

Better to stick with the stubborn, noble and hard working ass. It kicks back!

4. Dems are going to have to be a lot more loyal and consistent
before we would deserve to be represented by the noble dog.

Donkey fits us right now--stubborn, even at their own detriment.

5. How about a snarling tiger?
That's closer to my feelings at this point.

7. Our symbol should be an eagle.
It's patriotic, our national symbol. Wouldn't those redneck redstaters rather be a soaring eagle than a lumbering old pachyderm?

Dogs are intelligent, compassionate, and work well in teams. A dog will willingly put itself in danger to protect its owner. (on edit: when was the last time a republican put themselves in danger to defend ANYONE?)

If humans were as noble as dogs, there would be no republicans.

I nominate the noble Rottweiler as the democratic mascot. A very sharp dog that nobody will ever mess with.
