Are YOU, or do you know someone, in the art film business????????
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 12:54 PM by JanMichael
I have an old buddy who has finally completed a movie and needs help getting US distribution.

It's very much an Indy picture, think dark and gloomy, filmed in Hungary over the last year or so.

Part documentary, part drama and I believe a noose plays a big part. Don't let my lousy description make up your mind though, I'm a hack. The PM of New Zealand was at his NZ premere (He's a Kiwi) so it's got a bit of attention already.

He needs US/Canada distribution!

Can you help me help a friend?

Also, maybe you know an independant film house owner, that might help.

2. There is a group of Indy filmmakers in Richmond VA. Maybe you could
Google Indy film in Richmond. I don't know them but they are well established.
There is another in Durham NC I think. At least they may have some advice. Good luck.

3. He should submit it to South by Southwest.
www.sxsw.com

You never know - someone may like it and agree to show it at the film festival.

4. Hit the film festivals
We have one in Austin every year. http://www.austinfilmfestival.com/new/welcome.htm

Sundance is the dream of course, but consider them all. Some great hits have come out of small festivals. I think "What the Bleep Do We Know?" showed at a couple of very small festivals, and it's become a huge sleeper hit in many parts of the country. I think the story is similar for "Napoleon Dynamite."

5. I'm in Toronto
I have a few contacts and could easily find some more, but I'd need to know more about the film.

7. Film festival circuit...
is the way to go with a indy, these days -- that is the way to get picked up for distribution.

I'll try to dig up the number for Elliot at The Roxie here in SF -- he's their programmer and knows just about everything having to do with indie film and distribution.
