Hidden industry jargon REVEALED
Have you ever worked in an environment where there were inside terms used to talk about customers or clients ? Terms that were unflattering or otherwise callous?

Here are a few examples:

Intentionally annoying TV ads -- the ones which make you remember them because they are painful to sit through (off-key singing, Carrot Top, Old Navy, Quiznos Subs, etc) -- are called "bludgeoning" campaigns inside of the ad industry.

Wallet-oscopy - is when doctors figure out your medical coverage and credit line before treating you. This is done more by small ER/hospitals.

Sucker List - telemarketing jargon for people who are identified as an easy sale for phone solicitations.

Pump and dump - a common scheme where a micro-cap stock is hyped on the internet and then sold for a hype-inflated price

Heard any others?

3. Medical jargon
gomer--a professional patient, or patient who visits the ER frequently for minor complaints. Stands for Get Out of My Emergency Room.
dump--a patient who nobody wants, who is transferred from one medical service to another on one pretext or another
crock, or illness addict--a patient with many complaints and little disease; crocks are said to have "high serum porcelain"
brain stem prep, vegetable, gork---a deeply comatose patient
squash rot---severely stroked-out patient

and in SF hospitals in 88-89...
bobbing for apples---digital rectal exam
code brown---odious bowel movement in bed, floor, corridor
crunch---patient with multiple traumatic injuries
trainwreck---patient with multiple major ailments (high mortality rate there)
flooger---chunk of mucus flying out of tracheostomy hole
God's waiting room---a convalescent or elder care facility
slug---hyper-unmotivated patient who can, but will not, participate in any kind of self-care
And in Milwaukee hospitals from that era:
crispy critters---severely burned patients
G.M.O.F.---Great mass of flesh. Huge patient.
transferred to the big outpatient department in the sky---died
ungrateful patient---died despite best efforts of drs and nurses

5. A piece of local British med jargon I heard
Doctors in Norfolk sometimes put "normal for Norfolk" on a patient's notes, which means that the patient is an idiot.
