How much do I tip the paper deliverer?
I got a beeeautifal card from him yesterday, complete with his full name and address on a mailing sticker.

He could also be requesting a pen pal...

Hmmmm...

We own a news agency, and the newspaper's pay a CRAP commission to your carrier--- generally somewhere around a dime per-paper. It is customary to tip around 10% of the annual cost of the paper.

5. Great information, thank you!
I was wondering about that since I pay the paper directly. There's a line on the invoice where I put in a tip but I don't trust 'em.

I'm going with $20 like Otohara since he double bags it at the mere hint of a cloud and I've never yet had a wet or unreadable paper.

Uh..have any clue HOW I tip the garbage man without having to stand outside early in the morning waiting for him?? Maybe next year they'll take all my stuff.

7. Put the check in a ZipLoc, and tape it to the can.
That's what we do.

:)

Do you give them a check/m.o.? You are a genius!

10. A village of 2900.
We know his name, so we just fill it out, but a money order for $20 would work, too.

:)

how much do I tip him? I think we gave $20 last year. This is a new one. Is $20 right?

6. See my question in #5
How will you deliver it to him? That's the biggy for me, getting up in the dark and standing beside the garbage does not appeal.

20. Last year
On the night of garbage pick-up, I put a nice card with a $20 bill in it in a ziplock bag and taped it to the garbage bin. He pulled my bin back up from the curb to the house, which I assume is code for "I got it and thank."

17. No friend
Lucky for me they come late afternoon to my house. I leave a note on the big boxy trash thing in my alley that the tamales are ready. They just blow the horn a couple of times on the truck and we take it out to them.
Maybe you could call the city or service (which ever you use) ask them who your guys are and send them a check or a gift certificate at their "barn".

19. That is so sweet of you, do you live in a small town also?
There's no barn here, the pick up is by independent contractor. I'll wait to see if I get a card from them that has an address on it.

22. Oh, its about
100,000 people. In some parts of the country thats small. In my part medium size. For me it's just right.
Try contacting the contractors office, maybe they could help you with an address to send to.
I have always been blessed so far with the nicest garbage guys. What a hard job. I am so glad that so many DUers are remembering them. I don't even want to think about what my life would be with out them!

I wish more people realized how hard they do work, at what miserable hours and under ANY conditions, just like the USPS.
