11. Entertainment and Sports Programming Network
WHAT DOES ESPN STAND FOR?
It doesn't stand for anything ... but the story is this:
When ESPN started in 1979, we were the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (thus, ESPN). However, the full name was dropped in February 1985 when the company adopted a new corporate name -- ESPN, Inc. -- and a new logo. Based in Bristol, CT., ESPN is 80 percent owned by ABC, Inc., which is an indirect subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. The Hearst Corporation holds the remaining 20 percent interest in ESPN.

18. The STUPID Network, IMHO....
...is the one who hired Tom Arnold, easily the least talented individual on the planet, next to Adam Sandler, Eminem, and Pauly Shore.

22. I agree about Tom Arnold
but Eminem is far from my favorite rapper but he definately is talented. He has produced some albums of the top rappers today, as well as his own. Not only can he write he is very creative as well, his lyrics are clever and his style is unique, his own. He can come up with impressive rhymes from the top of his head which I can guarantee you MOST people cannot do. Able to do so many things as well as Eminem can hardly makes him talentless. Why Eminem? I can think of so many none talent individuals such as Shatner, Hilton, Spears, Kutcher, etc. Eminem is argurably the most talented alive MC in the business, songs performed under his alter ego Slim Shady however annoy me.

23. Eminem Is The Latest Of A Long Line Of Artists....
...including Elvis presley, that rode to fame by stealing from the black artists that preceded them. That's why I have no respect for his. He's today's version of Vanilla Ice.

24. Stealing?
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 04:10 PM by Champ
Like I said his style is unique from all the other rappers. Of course he didn't invent hip-hop or rap niether did any other top artist out there today, are you saying he shouldn't rap because he is caucasian and the rappers who preceded him were predominately black? If you can find evidence of stealing then you win the discussion. Unfornately for you he has huge fan base among the rap community who doesn't see him as some white boy who stole their stuff. Any rapper will tell you it isn't about black, white, mexican, etc. it's about being handed a mic and giving it your best shot. Again how did he steal?

25. I Can See From Where This Is Headed....
...that we're at a stalemate. As I see it, Eminem is an artistic thief, a punk, and a useless sack of shit.

And I'm just gonna leave it at that. I will not be replying any further on this subject, either in this thread or PM.

27. Alright, it doesn't matter to me - but here is my final word
A punk and useless sack of shit is debatable, all I was trying to understand is how is he a thief. I feel anyone should be able to pursue a career in any genre regardless of race or cultural background. If you are consistent in your opinion, how can any new artist that decides to record music (songs written by artist itself and not plagerized just like Eminem who writes his own stuff and no one has provided proof that he in fact stole material from other MCs) in an existing genre do it without being accused of stealing? I think Eminem should be applauded for showing a genuine interest in a culture of music that has been historically dominated by african-american artists, it shows how open minded he is and the color of someone's skin has no affect of his view toward them. How many caucasian people would resist the idea of becoming a rapper because it means they will likely have to perform in front of predominately black audiences? Eminem did that and he was applauded for showcasing tremedous talent as a rapper. From the impression you gave me, you made it seemed like instead of creating his own songs he scouted black MCs stole their lyrics and took credit for it. When you buy an Eminem Album you're buying his created material, you're not actually listening to songs written by some black MC that were "stolen" by Eminem. Are you even aware how many african american rappers from ran-down neighborhoods made it mainstream through Eminem? Just like Eminem became mainstream due to help from Dr. Dre, he is repaying the favor. There are probaly about 20 rappers I prefer over Eminem but calling him talentless and a thief is simply not true. Have a good day :hi:

21. The original name when it first signed on was
Enterprise SPorts Network (ESPN). ABC bought them out in the mid to late 80's and then they became Disney property when Disney bought out ABC.

OBTW: ESPN sports radio is popular now but when it was first tried in the early 80's it bombed big time.
