Someone from my tennis group commited suicide last night
I play at part of a gay/lesbian tennis group here in Austin. One of the guys also in it commited suicide last night. He was only 29 years old. I didn't know him well but seemed like a great guy. I don't know why it happened. I have nothing but questions. I can't imagine what his family must be going through.

3. oh no
Jock, I've been through this with friends a couple of times, so I really *do* know how you feel.

Remember the stages of grief, and don't beat yourself up for anger. Suicide is the single most selfish act a human being can commit, and you have a right to be angry, whether you are right now or will get there later.

Suicide Survivors is an excellent group. See if there's a chapter in your area.

Let yourself feel whatever you feel.

Hang in there.

7. thanks
I feel worse thinking about his family than me. I think about how my own mother died on Mother's Day. Every Mother's Day I think of her and her passing. Every Christmas, instead of all the crap we all hate being the focus of their lives, they will remember Joel and his taking his own life.

15. So sorry LDS Jock
My youngest sister, too, committed suicide at age 33. She was sort of like Princess Diana. Beautiful, soft-hearted, and incredibly kind and well loved by all. Sometimes the depression, for some, is just too much to take.

I do believe that,no matter what, we all go on through many different lifetimes in our spiritual journey. Somehow this thought has comforted me over the years. I hope it does you as well.

14. Very sad. Sorry. It's hard enough just being a human being lately
even harder being a gay human being. May his soul find the peace he couldn't.

16. I wonder if that had a role in it
Him being gay I mean. In a way, I'm sure it had to. Its something which effects so many parts of life. You get worn down from dealing with it all the time. For someone with serious problems to deal with I could see how they could reach the breaking point.

17. I am so sorry to hear this
Sadly, we'll probably never know why this happened. My husband killed himself in June, not leaving a note or anything. Sad that your friend didn't know how many lives he touched and how many people cared about him.

I'm so sorry for your group's loss, and for his family, who I know is suffering immensely right now.

21. The hatred that the "right" spawns
manifests itself in many ways...

Sorry to hear of your friend's passing - may God help his family at this time...
