Fans of Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show, line forms to the left...
Dr. Hook's second album "Sloppy Seconds"...

...came with a free 45 rpm record on which the band conducted a drunken interview with themselves. In the introduction they said "We were supposed to be interviewed, but the interviewer didn't show up, so we are going to interview ourselves." A highlight (from the depths of my memory banks):

Q: How did you sing that song, "Sylvia's Mother?"

A: Well, sir...sniveling (raucous group belly-laughs). That was our sniveling song. A lot of people said OH, YOU CRYBABY! WASHRAG!

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Yellow.

Q: Yellow?

A: Yes, I like anything yellow. Fried chicken feet. Chicken beaks. I like the beaks.

1. I LOVE that album.
Been listening to that one since I was 4 years old. Pop had that and The Isaac Hayes Movement on 8-track and I listened to those like mad.

Unfortunately, I didn't get the whole message behind "Freakers Ball" until around about 10 or 11 years old and that's only because I dug into my dad's Hustler collection at about that age.

Hard to believe that the guy who wrote The Giving Tree wrote a song about a BDSM orgy.

2. Shel Silverstein wrote many of their songs
Including "Sylvia's Mother" and "Cover Of The Rolling Stone".

Cool.

3. Here's one
Apperently that Shel was a toker...:smoke:

ACAPULCO GOLDIE

She was dancin' when I seen her, in a Mexican cantina
In a neighborhood they call "La Zona Roja".
She had a child's smile, but she told me in a while
It would take a lot of gold to get to know her.
Acapulco Goldie, donde did you go.
You said you'd always hold me
But you run away with me Acapulco Gold.

I knew there's no one cuter, then she said she was a puta.
I said, "What does puta mean?" And she told me...oh no...
Then we went to meet a dealer, we smoke and drink tequila.
Then the lights went out and I guess that's when she rolled me.

Just like Acapulco Goldie, por que did you go.
You said you'd always hold me.
But you vamos away with me Acapulco Gold.
Ya ya, you run away with me Acapulco Gold.

And here's a site about his adult works...
