Can someone help me with Computer Browser Problem? Have lost History file
Sometime yesterday afternoon "my list of sites I've visited disappeared." I use my History file to link articles to DU and go back to find an article I might have forgotten to Bookmark. But, when I access my "History" it's blank.

I've gone into "Preferences" and reset the number of days I want to keep links in "History" and that doesn't work.
It won't record sites I visit....just sits there blank. I also ran Scan Disk and Defragged....and can't find any other help about it.

I'm running Netscape 4:07 as my Browser. Yeah, I know it's old but it's easier to post on DU.....just because of the History file. I also have Netscape 7.0 installed which I use sometimes. But, it's the 4.07 that's the problem.

Anyone know what caused this and how to fix it?

1. No Idea What Caused It
If you have XP, have you checked your System Restore to see if a bookmark was made? Alternatively, you can search your system to see if a file exists and import it back into your browser.

2. but she also says it isn't recording new sites she visits
I don't know anything about Netscape anymore, but this sounds like a pretty profound problem. A kick in hopes a Netscape expert will see this.

3. I use Millenium. I found something on Google saying if Netscape History
file is corrupted you can just search for Netscape hst., delete the file and then when you restart your browser the file wil be reactivated. I found the file but it says "access is denied to delete the file" because it's being used by another program.

Are you suggesting I use "System Restore" to return my competer to a couple of days ago....before the "History" disappeared?

4. You Can
But you also may want to check to see if it made a bookmark. If it did then something else in your OS may have changed.

5. Netscape 4:07
That version of Netscape is about as old in browser years as I am in human years. I find my short-term memory is failing, too. I find my short-term memory is failing, too.

6. Banging head on keyboard!!!...after trying Google tips...for Netscape and
finding tinkering didn't work......I did what I should have done yesterday when this happened!

I restarted my Computer! Why is it some of us "clueless types" forget that "Restarting" is the FIRST thing to do when some really wierd quirk happens???

Restarting......fixed it.....my History is back! Don't know why I didn't think of that first......but it was so bizarre to lose my HIstory! I panicked........and didn't think of that simplist cureall! :argh:

Don't have any idea what caused it in the first place....but at least it's fixed! :-)

7. Bill C. It's Netscape 4.7, sorry. It's been around since 1999....are you
just a babe there! LOL's. I think there was an old Netscape 4.07.....maybe before my computer user time.... But 4.7 works just fine and it's so user friendly, I like it better than Netscape 7.0.
