Lawyer: Bible Led Mom to Sever Baby's Arms
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&ncid=718&e=8&u=/ap/20041214/ap_on_re_us/severed_arms

By LISA FALKENBERG, Associated Press Writer

McKINNEY, Texas - A mother who admitted killing her baby daughter by severing the girl's arms was guided by a Bible passage in which Jesus refers to cutting off body parts to cast away sin, the woman's attorney said Tuesday.

Dena Schlosser, a 35-year-old housewife with a history of mental illness, has referred to the New Testament passage since the killing of 10-month-old Margaret, attorney David Haynes told The Associated Press.

In the Book of Matthew, Jesus says: "If thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell."

4. Well once again these people interpet the bible the way they
want to. Probably some fundie. perhaps that mother should have mutilated herself instead of her baby. Anyway saying that God or The Devil caused the person to do something is one of the leading defenses used in such cases.

5. Maybe she should've followed this verse next:

Mt 18:6 "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea."

6. As usual, the words of Jesus was misinterpreted
it says If THY right hand offend thee-it is about personal responsibility and taking it to the utmost. The passage says nothing about hurting another, especially an innocent baby.

Did this woman read the Bible? Because in a later passage, Jesus said "Whatsoever you do unto the least of these, you do unto Me."

13. Not only that, she apparently believes it was
intended to be taken literally.

He was using a metaphor to illustrate a point. He did not mean people should ACTUALLY start severing limbs, and particularly those of other people.

14. Oh - and while I'm at it, what on EARTH could a 10 month old have done
to warrant punishment for "sin"?

The little girl and mother will surely go to heaven, because it was done out of love for Jesus.

9. It's right there in Amputicus 14:7
"Yea verily, then shall ye remove thy firstborns upper limbs to a faraway site for they are an abomination in the Eyes of the Lord."
You people just don't get it.
