3 winter hummingbirds banded in our yard today--a rare allen's
hummingbird, a male ruby throat, a juvenal rubythroat and there was one rufous that wouldn't fly into the cage.
Last year we had 5 rufous and a rubythroat banded

1. Wow, I didn't know they were in the east
except for the ruby-throated. Cool. I only see rufous and Allen's when they migrate. Most we have Anna's here.

2. Hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly backwards
I think.

They are so cool.

3. Lucky You! Rufous in the Snow
An apparent Rufous was at Duluth, MN on Dec. 1 in the snow: it had been there for weeks.

The number of western Hummingbirds in the East and Southeast is apparently a normal occurrence, but who knows.
