Need book recommendation for Dad!
Hey DUers- help me out with a good book for Dadherenow.
He loved Chalmers Johnson and several others I have given him.
Honestly, I am out of touch with the newest and hot books,
so I would love to hear your recent picks!
I am going out to do the shop; at INDEPENDENT sellers,
NOT corporate fuck face retail shops.
their not getting a single dime from us this year!

1. just heard John Perkins talking about his book:
Confessions of an economic hit man. I researched it at amazon and it got great reviews, reads like a novel, very compeling and informative.

7. I hope you cheat them on break time...
Screw the corporate bastards at EVERY chance!
he likes non-fiction and has gotten very interested
in the BFEE over the last few years.
He LOVES the books that rip them apart.

12. My non-fiction recs...
Attack Poodles by James Wollcott. Funny yet scathing polemic against media whoredom.

Worse Than Watergate by John Dean. Exposure of the secrecy of the Bush ADministration by someone who knew and worked for the 'best'.

Price of Loyalty by Ron Susskind. Still the best 'insider' book I've yet read. Hopefully more to come in the second term.

25. WtW is the book that pins the W.rong administration against the wall
I cannot recommend it enough. He might also enjoy David Brock's "Republican Noise Machine" and/or "Blinded by the Right."

I work in a major library's Collection Development Department (buying, pretty much) and read reviews for a living!

4. Hey, BeHereNow
This is sort of off topic, but speaking of books; did you get the inspiration for your user name from the cult classic book of the same name by Ram Das? If so, do you know where I can get a copy? I used to have one but I gave it to a friend of mine who had done something nice for me.

10. I still have my copy...
I gave it to my daughter when she was the age
that I first encountered it in 1974.
I would suggest used book sellers as a source to locate
a copy, they are out there!
And yes, my user name is from the book title.
I love that book- it is such a stream of consciousness ramble.
My favorite kind of writing.

15. Good deal
I got my copy of the book in the early 90s. I was into all kinds of eastern philosophy at the time. I think that book breaks some of that philosophy down so that the western mind can understand what all those gurus are talking about over there. It's a wonderful book.

6. I don't know much about great titles & authors, but I have a couple
of favorites.

Yeager General Chuck Yeager's autobiography. It's somewhat self-serving, and rather boastful at times, but very, very interesting!

Mornings On Horseback David McCullough wrote a fine biography of Theodore Roosevelt's life before he became president.

Good luck making choices!

21. Here's a couple.....
"Under the Banner of Heaven" - just read for a book club - about a true-crime event and also some history of the Mormon church. Interesting outlook.
"Life of Pi" - fiction - first part a bit slow but couldn't put it down when I got half-way!
Good luck!

23. Welcome to DU BW925! And thanks...
However, I am now home from the shopping trip
and dadherenow is taken care of.
I got him Thomas Frank, Seymour Hersh and Ron Susskind.
Along with some book tapes which he loves.

But, I will add your recommendations to my list anyway
cause his birthday will be here in the blink of an eye!
Thanks, and again WELCOME!
