I went to boarding school when I was 12 and would spend approx. 2-3 hours each day after school just playing ping pong - it gets super addictive. Don't play that often anymore due to college and work, but jump at every chance I get.

My biggest win: beating the frat boys at MIT - they were surprised to have been smeared by a queer. :P

The quaint little game we all played on the cheap green table in the basement is worlds different from what is known as table tennis. If you're going to be a world class table tennis player, you have to be fit. I should know, my wife trained US Olympic teams, and my brother in law played on one. They're both still in shape, and when they were competitive in the Olympics, they had a hell of a workout regiment. Running, weights, toning, stretching, footwork, the whole thing. People like to dis table tennis because they always associate it with the game they played in their basement when they were a kid. Not the same thing at all.
