I can download? I also want to be able to stick an image right in an email, not as an attachment.

1. I like Polyview
The free version has some functions disabled (like print), but overall it's a great program...

10. hey, I have irfanview! But when I open a file that has that red blotch...
I get a window/frame with my image in it. And my mouse cursor acts like the one in acrobat does. Furthermore, I have no idea how to stick that image in an email so it will be there when recipient opens that emai up.

14. Copy the image
Just <Control>+C to Copy it to the clipboard, then <Control>+V to Paste it where you want in your mail (you'll have to make sure your message is HTML Mail, not Plain Text).

That's all there is to it!

7. If you are on XP, can't you use System Restore to undo it?
I don't know how you did it, but it might be the simpliest way.

12. What you need to do with Irfan
Open Irfan, click on Options/Set File Associations, choose the Extensions tab, and click the Images Only button. Then click OK. This will make Irfan the default viewer for all image files (but not for videos or anything else.)

Putting images directly into an email is a matter between you and your email program -- it has nothing to do with viewing images on your own machine. If you post again to say what email program you use, someone will probably be able to tell you how to do that.
