Non-alcoholic drinks suck.
I'm just grumpy, because the wife and I decided we were drinking too much wine every single night, and now only have a single glass of wine with dinner.

Which means I'm drinking a lot of Appolinaris and other sparklies.

:grr:

My BF and I are going on the Atkins diet on Sunday, and we are giving up our vast daily quantities of wine for *two friggin' weeks*!!!

5. I'm following a low carb program myself.
Edited on Thu Sep-25-03 07:27 PM by liberalnurse
I'm choosing reduced frequencies of carbs and when I choose to eat one, I elect a complex option. I do get my servings of fresh fruit. I choose fruit instead of a desert item. I'ts working. I lost 6 pound in 10 DAYS.

Man, I must of really been pigging out. I got about 15 pounds to loose. Need to get into my sexy, tight jeans.

Oh, I bought that low-carb beer. Thats tasty.

7. Glad to hear it's working for you
We decided to go on a strict Atkins thang to start with--I think we really just want to make some drastic changes in our habits, and this seemed the least horrific way to go about it.

9. I like the "Sugar Busters "approach.
More humane and realistic. Once you get the carb craving out it is much easier. Shopping becomes a science. A good science I might add.

12. I had great success with Atkins...30 pounds in 12 weeks.
Edited on Thu Sep-25-03 09:22 PM by MercutioATC
Kept it off for 5 months and then started experimenting with how much I could "cheat". I didn't start gaining weight until I was really pigging out on carbs (1 or 2 dinners of pasta or piza or such a week were fine). When I put 8 pounds back on, I went back on a pseudo-induction (only Atkins-approved induction foods, but no daily carb count and I'm still drinking alcohol). I've lost 4 pounds in 2 weeks (only 4 to go).

For reference: 5'8" I started at 180# post-quitting-smoking weight. Started with a target weight of 155# and then decided that 155# still felt a little heavy and went to 150#. Up to 158# and now back to 154#.

If you handle the loss of carbs, Atkins works great.

15. Micolob Ultra only has half a carb less than Miller Lite
I saw an article in the Village Voice about the Carb Lite beers. They showed that there were actually several light beers that were less than one carb higher than Ultra.

Personally I'd rather go without beer than to touch any of that stuff.

18. See? You've got a handle on this thing already...
Now you have to maximize the benefit of surface tension. Have you considered drinking from soup bowls?

I'm enjoying my russian winter. 2 parts vodka, 2 parts red grapefruit juice, 1 part cranberry juice cocktail. Serve into a sugar rimmed cocktail glass.

17. Well, good for you for
drinking less if you were drinking too much. I drink 1-2 glasses about 4 nights a week.

Re: alchohol and atkins:

4 oz glass of red wine = 2 carbs
4 oz glass of white = 0.9 carbs

Spirits such as tequila, gin, whiskeys, etc. have no countable carbs at all for Atkins purposes. What's harmful about them is the sugar-laden mixes you add to them. So, learn to do what I did: learn to leave off the mixers. Drink it neat or over ice.

19. Just drink on the weekends
Then you can have 10 drinks a night and say "well, I only drink on the weekends."
