What to do for Christmas dinner
when your stove breaks at 7:30 on Christmas Eve????

AAAAAccccckkkkk!!!!!!!!! Now I have to figure out if
I can use the broiler and an oven thermometer to keep the
oven at a reasonable temperature to cook the roast beast.....

1. Uh, no,
seriously, buy something or borrow a neighbor's oven or something else, but the broiler will just burn it. roast needs to be slow cooked at around 350 or so-- broiler too hot, just ain't gonna work ... JMHO........

4. I know the broiler is too hot
I was thinking that I would have a rack high up with foil
on it ( to get rid of the radiant heat problem with the
broiler) and then turn the broiler on for a minute every
ten minutes or so....

Seriously, will probably borrow a friend's stove, but this is
a really c*a*py way to start the christmas cooking process....

Fortunately, we already had some cookies baked for santa tonight
or our two year old would have been sorely disappointed!
Now what to do with all the uncooked chocolate chip cookie dough....

7. easier yes
and I have already emailed the owner of the stove
to ask her permission...
she is out of town and surely won't mind....
but I am in Good Eats/Surreal Gourmet overdrive mode:
I need to know how many RPMs the engine needs to show
and how far to drive like that to achieve an internal
temperature of 120 degrees!

Good Eats/Surreal Gourmet == James Bond/McGiver for the
kitchen-inclined....

3. Seconded to what Crispini said.
Do you have or can you borrow a large crock pot? That can work. Or one of those electric roasters? I have one of those and have even done a turkey in it.

5. Nope, none of those
but since the roast beast is standing rib roast we have an
ultimate fallback position: carve out some good steaks and cook
them on top of the stove (which still works).

11. Crockpot
Keep in mind I'm a vegetarian and I have no idea how to cook meat. But it seems that since it's early, the crockpot might work.
