Poll question: What's your favorite "ethnic" music instrument?
I know "ethnic" isn't a good qualifier, since bagpipes and the like are pretty well known worldwide, but I couldn't come up with a better way to describe and instrument with a certain sound that always brings stereotypes to mind.

3. Djembe
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 05:06 PM by ET Awful
Since I used to make, import and sell them, and love the expressive sound :)

The Djembe is THE drum of the Mandang or Mandingo peoples of West Africa. It's the primary drum used for most ritual ceremonies from harvest to birth, etc.

4. Manzelo & Stitch
2 things Roland Kirk would play sometimes.
I like Pan Pipes but since they put that patch on most synths you hear them everytime a movie of t.v. show has a flash of Central or South America, kinda annoying like in the 60s when they showed hippys the sitar music started.

I'm assuming anything humankind assembles into a device that plays a soulful noise counts? (it's a matter of turning the noise into music.)

Sure it might not be ethnic, but it can make (I think) very intersting sound.

18. Ocarina
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 07:45 PM by BensMom
The 15 year old princess of the house was gifted with an Ocarina.
This kept her attention for about a minute. We'll see the real reaction in a day or two.

But I think it is the "take me along - coolest thing."
