What is so great about this 'iPod' thing?!
It's a portable proprietary + MP3 player with a hard drive, so don't drop it. AND it's in your choice of pretty colors that they choose, so how is it really your choice?

I've a PDA that plays MP3s already, so test your salesman mettle and convince me to buy one. :9

1. to name a few...
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 06:23 PM by barackmyworld
up to 60 gigs of storage, long battery life, no moving parts, small and lightweight, high quality sound, has a lot of accessories (speakers, radio, remote, etc)

And you can have it a ton of colors if you get a silicone case (my regular size ipod is pink)

edit: I think there may be moving parts, but not many

3. Isn't the hard drive a "moving part"?
I prefer smaller devices that use memory cards.

9. No way! Why waste your money on those mp3 players?
You get crap amount of storage for the amount of money you spend on it.

20. Because I don't need gigs of storage
I prefer the smaller size, light weight, lower cost, and especially longer battery life.

I can quickly change the mix from my computer or swap cards.

I don't need 60GB and it is a hard drive holding it all...

7. You get to pay Apple a gazallion dollars for songs
Don't try to convert your music to MP3's, they won't play.

The new Sony (coming soon) and Creative Rio players will let you play anything, screw Steve Jobs and his "razor blade' venture.

12. Umm, I download mp3's all the time...
and put them on my iPod and they play fine. If you want to buy songs from iTunes, yeah, they are not mp3's, but that's for security and quality purposes.

From the Apple site:

iPod Audio support

AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 (32 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Apple Lossless, WAV, AIFF, Audible

When you run out of cd's and analog to convert, where are you buying your music from?

16. So?
iTunes is the best digital music store anyway, who wants to use the other shit ones. And if you don't want to pay for music, as most don't, just download your files as usual, as long as they're not windows media (which is shit quality) you should be fine.

I'm not seeing your point?

26. Just got an Ipod for xmas
I took 10 mins to set it up, it copied EVERY digital song in my music library except for 10 songs I ripped from a CD in WMA protected format. So, the ipod will definitely play mp3 format songs. :)

33. Yes, she can. The iTunes software will download the CD automatically...
Then you just pick the tracks you don't want loaded, and it downloads the rest to your iPod. Just bought one for my girlfriend for Christmas. Now I want one. :)

23. Actually
Use iTunes to burn the downloaded songs to CDs, then reimport them back into iTunes. They will be turned into MP3's, since that's the default ripped song format.

32. Don't know where you got your info, but MP3s play fine on an iPod
The only format I can't use on it is WMA (no big loss). I've got mp3s (which are a proprietary format, too) AA (audible.com format) m4p (the iTunes format), a couple .wav files, AAC, AIFF. They all play just fine.

Do your research, don't spout off about things you don't know.

Your bigotry is not appreciated.

30. are there any websites for the terminally tech impaired
that show you how to do all these cool things with an iPod?

I don't hve one, but maybe in a year or two...but I don't know what you all are talking about. Like where do you find all these MP3's you're talking about (aside from the iTunes site, which I reckon is easy to find.) I need a 101-for-idiots level course. :dunce:
