1. old crow
Not that I actually drink it but, c'mon, you gotta like a the hubris of a drink called Old Crow. I use it sometimes to make hard sauce for bread pudding or to put into a pecan pie.

6. YEAH!
Back about 11-12 years ago or so, my best pal and I would invariably spend Christmas together getting wrecked with a bottle of Old Crow each - the plastic bottles for lushes too sketchy to be trusted with glass. I tried drinking some recently and I couldn't get the stuff down - horrible.

My sister and I drank it while my brother, who I was supposed to be watching (age3) and my sisters daughter (age2) ran roughshod through my parents house. We had passed out.

I liked MD - the wine of the century - ha ha

Wasn't MD 20/20 a Manischewitz (Mogan David) product?
That always threw me - a kosher line, and an edgy product - from the same place.

7. when I lived in the UK (almost 20 yrs ago) the rot gut stuff was sold in
fancy food shops as something special & gourmet (in the "food hall" markets in department stores)-exotic bali hai & boones farm.

There's a hysterical book -"judaikitsch"
with all kinds of cool insane craft projects for your empty manischewitz bottles, matzoh meal boxes etc...

10. What about Cisco?
Known as "liquid crack," for its reputation for wreaking more mental havoc than the cheapest tequila. Something in this syrupy hooch seems to have a synapse-blasting effect not unlike low-grade cocaine. The label insists that the ingredients are merely "citrus wine & grape wine with artificial flavor & artificial color," but anyone who has tried it knows better. Tales of Cisco-induced semi-psychotic fits are common. Often, people on a Cisco binge end up curled into a fetal ball, shuddering and muttering paranoid rants. Nudity and violence may well be involved too. Everyone who drinks this feels great at first, and claims, "It's not bad at all, I like it." But, you really do not want to mess around with this one, because they all sing a different tune a few minutes later. And by tune, I mean the psychotic ramblings of a raging naked bum.

Were you arrested and thrown into a psych ward until they realized it was just the hooch talking?

15. Everclear is a dirty word.
Edited on Sun Dec-26-04 03:15 PM by Ilsa
I had finished some antibiotics a couple of days before and thought the drug was out of my system. I went to a party, had a couple of small cups of some fruit punch with that innocently vile stuff, and started getting sick. I made it home, threw up a dozen times over the next two days. I avoided antibiotics for the next three years. I won't ever drink everclear again. "Bottled Demon spit" is too nice a way to describe it.

18. I think it was a sulfa drug, like Bactrim.
I doubt it could have been metronidazole. This was over twenty years ago, and I wasn't a nurse then. But I seem to recall getting Bactrim a couple of times for a UTI.

I knew better than to drink while on the drug, but I had finished the course of treatment several days before. That was when I learned how sensitive my body was to medications. It has never happened since.

Affectionately known as 'Word' where I used to hang, ages ago. ("Have you heard, what's the word? Thunderbird.") With that unique turpentine taste.

17. Used to love wine..and my mother used to say 'Whatever you do do NOT
give her wine.' If anyone has seen the movie 'Blind Date' you would know why I should not be given wine under any conditions. Truly and truly, after drinking wine there have been high speed chases, nights in jail and being lost in the subway in NY City at 3 in the AM (I am from VA)

That was back in my youth. Now I drink only beer when I drink. NO wine for me.

32. Yes, I've had the bad el cheapo bender with Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill.
With all associated side effects and one or two unexpected ones. There was a bad New Year's underage drinking high school party, complete with blackout, from my misspent youth too, involving Man o' Manischewitz, but there were many other culprits too.

"It was so dark. It happened so fast. There were so many kinds of booze."

26. Jug sangria isn't too bad--
I would have "adult punch" at some of my teenage parties made with that (I think it was King's). I believe you can still get Ripple, but sadly, Champale is a thing of the past. I used to drink Banker's Club gin, actually, but that's neither here nor there, and I was neither here nor there when I was drinking it.

Don't ask me how it works, cuz it's not like Boones Farm has all that great of an alcohol content!!!!!!!

Edited on Sun Dec-26-04 09:30 PM by GingerSnaps
Ice Wine is nice if you like a sweet German wine.

I like Australian Wines myself because of the climate that the grapes are grown in.

The only red/rose wine that I can stomach is Penfolds Beaujolais Nouveau.

Oh you said cheap...Trader Joes cheap $2.99 per bottle wine is ok to cook with and you can get it down if you chill it real well which you are not suppose to do but it helps. :D
