Do you remember the first thing you ever posted on DU?

I do. I was a total dork and felt really stupid, too.

I decided to post first in the lounge, as the other forums scared me. There was some thread with an acronym like MLS or something and I didn't know what they were talking about. I didn't realize it was an inside joke and so I asked what it meant. No one answered. I asked again, further down in the thread, again no one answered.

I guess you didn't have to have a minimum number of posts to PM because I PMed one of the guys on the thread asking him what it meant and bristling at being ignored. He PMed me back what the acronym stood for (it was sexual) and I was all embarrassed for having pushed my way into what was clearly an "inside" thread. I didn't do that again.

In fact, I didn't even post again for weeks.

I don't know if the original posters are still around or not and I wouldn't want to embarrass them.

Someone had posted a thread regarding the 1973 Pinochet coup (also on September 11) and asked about Victor Jara whose picture appeared in photos on the subject. She wanted to know if anyone knew anything about Victor Jara and I did and I told her. That was my first post.

MoveOn.org had just published the skinny on the PNACers and somebody posted a thread about it. I'd been reading about the PNAC for a few months on other web sites. I said something to the effect that this was the type of thing that would take down Bush. The truth was enough. That was in March of '03. Boy was I wrong.

Took me a little bit to figure out that people generally don't like to read long posts. I still can't resist sometimes though.

Heh. Actually what was bad was that I posted in GD then it got locked or moved because it mentioned Dean by name as an THE example of using the internet for small dollar fundraising.

i had found this site about two weeks prior but had only lurked a bit. then when i saw that the thread was going to be sent to clinton, i registered so i could post on it. didn't post again for another couple of weeks, and i don't remember what my next post was.

:shrug: Nothing memorable.

Kerry-bashing, and not helping the campaign instead ands actually go do some work or at least make some constructive critism of the campaign instead of just complaining about it.
They responded with something like this: "Sit down and shut up. We could run the campaign a lot better that John Kerry, John Edwards or Mary Beth Cahill ever could".
That was early August of this year, I believe.

I was arguing about the validity of a definition in Webster's dictionary with someone who had a couple of thousand posts under their belt at the time, compared to my complete newb status. I think I won that particular argument, and they've hardly posted (with that user name, anyway) since.
