Winter display leaves neighbors cold
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2004/12/27/MNGPMAHEBH1.DTL

At 6 o'clock, as a crystalline blue dusk descended over the desert valley, Chris Birkett began his nightly Christmas extravaganza, turning his modest house and yard into "Winter Wonderland," a blazing filigree of up to 150,000 lights forming Santas, reindeer, "Nutcracker" characters, snowflakes, stars and American flags, under puffs of soap bubbles and sprays of artificial snow.

With it came blaring Disney music and narration that echoed up and down the quiet residential block: "Do you believe in magic? Look to the sky and make a wish. Star light, star bright, I wish I may, I wish I might."

Birkett, who says he spent $4,000 for a special fence to muffle the sound and has even offered to buy the Majercins' house for $225,000, says that he is acting out of devotion to Jesus and the spirit of Christmas and that his freedoms were also at stake.

I don't see how this is an act of devotion to Jesus--maybe to his local electric company but certainly not to Jesus

7. Oh I wish he was my neighbor.
I'd show him my devotion to Lucifer (the pre-christian version). I'd learn 'im. Other peoples gots freedoms too.

That and, a few judicious twists of bailing wire in the right place and the next time he flipped the switch his lights would go kerflupple kashizzle and that would be the end of that.

Freedom to sleep peacefully in my own home. Freedom to not wear sunglasses at night to avoid UV damage. Freedom to not be forced to listen to an ass on legs telling me about his freedoms.

10. Nah, the way I see it, he spends so much more on electricity at this
time of year, and has so many extension cords running, I'm sure he wouldn't notice if say . . . . every other house on the block . . . leached off his power for a month or so.

Not that I'd condone stealing his electricity, I'm just sayin' is all :)

9. Another insane crackpot would do all that in the name of Jesus?
He's worshipping a false idol.

11. Some people cannot handle having large amounts of money.
As a society, we should take most of it away from them in order to benefit the common good. He claims to be devoted to a very charitable man anyway, so he probably wouldn't mind too much.

13. And whose money do we take away?
And who decides which people can't handle having large amounts of money?

I support a progressive tax scale, but one that is only slightly progressive.

12. What's the passage in the bible
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 04:17 PM by TXlib
that instructs you to pray and worship in private? His neighbor should nail that line to his front door.

14. My Neighbor Does This at Halloween
Howling wolves, screaming women, chainsaws, moaning, yowling cats, traffic messes, hundreds of trick or treaters from all over the region.

I love it.
