1. WTF? Trader Joes 74% to republicans and Ralphs 71% to Dems?
NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED THAT IN A MILLION YEARS

2. Trader Joe's only gave around $300 total, back in 2001.
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 04:49 PM by Liberty Belle
No donations in 2002 or 2004. So they are basically non-political.

It's the exact opposite of what I originally thought. Whew, I though I was going to have to start going to Ralphs

6. I just checked again at opensecrets.org and the FEC site.
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 04:55 PM by Liberty Belle
Both list only 1 contribution of $300 from Trader Joe, back in 2001, to the NRCC. Nothing in 2002 or 2004 to either party. I've notified Choose the Blue that they apparently have an error in their listing, since their data references these same sources.

Have to do something about that 38% red contribution, though...

Thanks for the site! I'm forwarding it to my buds!

15. That makes sense...
The money they give dems (like Zell Miller, maybe?) can't help us more than their twisted lies screw us over.

20. FOX people
Despite what you may think, many people who are the worker bees at FOX are not cons or neocons. Many of them are quite liberal.

I was one of them until this summer when I couldn't stand to work someplace where my politics clashed so much with the message the management fostered. I took early retirement. Many of us are bailing or have done so already.

17. Maybe...
But suppose they give 100% to Zell Miller types? That's not exactly helping the cause.

Or suppose they're giving rethuglican bucks to some candidate who couldn't possibly beat the Dem? I wouldn't mind that...

18. I disagree. I think it is OK for a company to contribute 50/50
to blue / red or even to not give at all.

And, as others have said, what about the way they treat employees, unions, green behavior, etc? everyone's gotta make their own choices.

16. There are some "bad" blue companies, though....
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 06:13 PM by no name no slogan
Look at Microsoft, for example. They are 60% blue-- however, they are also one of the greatest anti-competitive forces in the marketplace, too. They have been found guilty of violating anti-trust laws and have even settled with many states because of their market-unfriendly practices.

Also, look at E&J Gallo. They are 90% blue-- however, they are also under a lot of pressure from labor rights groups due to their unfair labor practices. In fact, there may even be a boycott in effect, if I'm not mistaken.

Even worse, look at Ticketmaster: 95% blue-- and yet they are one of the most consumer-unfriendly anti-competitive companies in the WORLD.

And what about Target stores? 73% red, but they also donate 5% of their profits to community-based charities and non-profit organizations-- something you don't see a lot of 'blue' companies doing.

First looks can be deceiving.

19. That's why I like this website:
http://www.responsibleshopper.org/

Dems don't need to support unscrupulous businesses.

Maybe it'd be good to check out the "blue" businesses on this site, so we aren't defeating the purpose.
