4. Hahaha,
but if you lift the hood, it will dispay the actual mileage count.

2. Watch out for the tranny....
My 4x4 Explorer transmission crapped out a little over 100K. I should ask if it is a manual or auto gearbox. The 5speed in my 98 GT Mustang never had any problems, but I didn't have it for 100K miles.

5. Fords lose their transmissions
right about this time, if not sooner. My 95 Escort pooped out at 80,000 miles but it always was a lemon.

6. My 1995 Integra clicked over about 13,000 miles ago
Can't replace her cuz I'm a proud member of the 6.4% (unemployed), so I sure hope she'll hang in there for alot longer....!

So far, so good (touch wood)---and good luck to you, too!

8. 1995 has 13,000 miles?
Thats incredibly low mileage. Do you mean 130K? Hondas run a good long time, you should get plenty more miles out of it.

My 1988 Volvo 240 is almost at 300,000 and died. The book value on it is $800.00. I am just going to bury the old lady and walk.

12. The engine in ours went out at about 195,000 miles.
It's going to cost us about $900 to replace, including labor(we know this guy who always has a cousin.... ). Sometimes starters go out at about the 100,000 range. Been a good little car for us.

15. My Toyota...
just made it over 200,000 miles.

Aside from the obvious stuff, like tires, brake pads, tuneups, and exhaust systems--

Timing belt's (I assume it's got a belt, not a chain) gotta be changed before it blows, causing vast engine damage $100-200. Do the water pump at the same time, since most of the cost is labor and you don't want him digging in there again in 6 months.

Vibration damper (also known as harmonic balancer and other names) may go, if it has one, initially causing belt wear and eventually causing crankshaft pully to fall off. Replace when trusted mechanic says it's bad if you can afford it. Mine cost $350, but a lot of that is labor, and yours may be easier to get to. And the part may be cheaper.

Struts are probably ready to be replaced. $150-250 per pair.

Check out stuff that could cause drastic problems-- cut boots on front driveshafts, front end wear, leaking rear wheel cylinders and brake master cylinder, various bearings...

Don't do anything if it's burning oil.

16. me too!
same car...what a coincidence...of course, this is my 2nd engine (first conked out at 90k;)

If and when it dies, I recommend you KEEP the car, go to a junkyard, find an escort that has been totalled--preferably on the BACK SIDE...Have them pop out the engine and get it installed on your current car. I did this for a flat fee of $700 and the car runs good as new. I plan on keeping my little escort forever...and saving a ton of $$ that would have been wasted on another car.

17. my 1990 Subaru
is about 110,000 (I almost never drive it any more. Why drive when you can metro?) and besides a new transmission and clutch at 100,000 no real problems. Assuming the body holds out )always a danger on the East Coast, she'll be around for a bit longer.

18. We retired our 1993 Escort at 164,000...
Spouse had a chance at a used minivan, cheap, so we gave off our Escort to a local charity. Still ran fine, though it had already flunked MD emissions and needed shocks/struts on all 4 wheels. Oh yeah, and since it was a 2-door coupe the door frames leaked like hell.

Great car..wish I had one just like it.

20. My 1998 Escort
has never needed anything... except tires. I change the oil now and then. It just keeps running. I've never had a problem.

Coming up on 70,000 miles.

The only problem I do have is I owe on it more than it's worth... pmts. are 157 a month for 5 years starting Aug 2001 (bought it used w/less than 40k)...

I still owe 6k and it's only worth 5k (if you can find anyone to buy a used car nowadays! Deflation and all...)

My wife backed into it and stoved in the passenger door but our deductible is like $300 so we still haven't got that fixed...

21. My 98 Escort has some minor problems
CO2 sensors both went out and the a/c doesn't work (electrical problems on both counts). Otherwise, it's a great, reliable car. Good mileage, not very expensive to repair (my last car was a 92 Probe, which was extremely expensive to repair).

My goal is to buy a 2005 Focus in 2005. I'm a Ford loyalist. My grandpa would kill or disinherit me if I bought anything but a Ford.
