I just installed some software that
handles Japanese on my US version of WIN XP. I'm curious to see if it works properly on this BBS. Here goes: 七転び八起き

5. Thanks guys, I found out what I wanted to know.
The viewer has to have Japanese language support, otherwise it's just "six little boxes". Actually, Internet Explorer can be set up to display Japanese and other ideographic languages, as can Netscape. Apparently so can Opera, but I don't see that option with this Foxfire.

That Opera translation was close enough. It's a Japanese phrase (can also be Chinese or Korean) that refers to the "vicissitudes (ups and down) of life". Literally, it's something like: "falling down seven times, and picking onesself up eight times". Class dismissed.

8. A good friend is trying to get me to
get on to the True Path to Enlightenment (ie: get with Linux). The version he's been "pushing" is Simply Mepis; apparently close kin to KANTONIX. I'll partition my other computer to WIN ME and Mepis, and give it a try. One of the points my friend stressed, was the very high level of support Mepis has for Japanese.
