Another reason NOT to like the Ramones...
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 10:40 AM by Archae
Annthrax Coulter is a big fan of the "Rock and Roll High School" no-talent group.

Crazy Ann Coulter, the DVD

Is It True What They Say About Ann?

DVD
Burkett, Elinor; Wright, Patrick

Go behind the scenes with Ann Coulter, and meet the woman behind the stinging barb and the quick wit. In the brand new documentary "Is It True What They Say About Ann?" you’ll see the "conservative movement’s diva" at her best:

(snip)

You’ll also get a rare glimpse of the real Ann Coulter:

* Learn about her childhood in -- and flight from -- the suburbs

* Hear Ann talk about how her mother still sends her Easter baskets every year

* Find out about Ann’s passion for such rock bands as the Grateful Dead and the Ramones

21. Thank you.
You can refuse to listen to them because they SUCK, but to refuse to listen to them because someone you despise likes them is just stupid.

I mean, I bet there are lots of mean-spirited neocon asswipes who like Led Zeppelin, but why should I deprive myself of their great art because of that?

Decided to start the first flamewar in the Lounge on Wednesday over a band I think sucks.

(Yes, I am having fun with this, don't take me TOO seriously.)

I also never could stand the Steve Miller Band.

Michael Jackson
Van Halen (1980's)
ZZ Top
Beatles
Pink Floyd
Genesis

Actually, the only music I DON'T like is church music, opera and "gangsta" rap.

I saw an interview with Steve Miller, about 10 years ago.
Granted, I wasn't expecting him to be some Einstein.

But Miller went out of his way to be a total DORK.
Lousy lyrics, repetitious brain-dead playing, the works.

I guess the last show I saw would qualify as a "bad" show, but only as compared to other shows :). The last show at Shoreline in '95 you could definitely tell Jerry was on a downhill slide.

The Ramones were AWESOME! I saw them a bunch of times. Joey wrote most of the songs and was influenced by 1960s pop music.

BTW Joey was a BIG liberal, had political fights with RW Johnny. "Bonzo goes to Bitburg" was an unflattering song about Reagan.

like I say to the "kids," where do you think all the punks came from? They all had long hair and cut it off after Listening to too much progressive and other forms of rawk!

75. Pshaw! The 'punks' came from Pub and Garage Rock.
Iggy Pop had long hair, and he was a punk in 1969. You're just a hippy - a dirty damned hippy! Why don't you get a haircut, buoy? :P

91. touche'
actually I do have really long hair again. I used to cut it off in the punk days... pretty badly, in fact. I still contend that without the hippies there would not have been punk, for good or ill. ;)

51. The Ramones Live!
No reason to be dissing the boys. They had plenty of talent, and they used it to create far better ends than most.

I don't care how "influential" they were, I never cared for them

69. IF she is a fan
She's a johnny come lately. I saw the Ramones at her high school, New Canaan High, and she was definitely not there, since everyone but me, my brother and our friends walked out on them.

One of the greatest bands of all time. They tore the place up. And we drank beer out in the parking lot with them after their 22 minute set. If it was that long.

76. They walked out on the Ramones???
Some people just have no musical taste. At least Anndrew Coulter got ONE thing right. Though it's obvious s/he doesn't really listen to either the Ramones or the Dead, or it would be impossible to be such a hateful bitch as s/he is.

And I am definitely against "it" ('it' meaning 'you', Ann).

78. they were great the many times I saw them live!
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 01:20 PM by jonnyblitz
they were about playing simplistic music and being loud and it worked. they were the beach boys on glue. I am sure I lost part of my hearing because of them. musical taste is subjective, of course, and I don't get angry when people don't like what I like.

81. I think it was Charles White in Rolling Stone
Who said, the Ramones are like being run over by a steamroller driven by Bugs Bunny. I thought that was perfect.

83. I never could tell when they ended one song and started another
every once in awhile, if I was payiing attention, I would catch the 1-2-3-4 in between songs. I can't really listen to their music too much anymore but I do appreciate them for providing a good backround noise to a fun period of my life.

84. If Ann Coulter says so...
...then it's safe to assume that it isn't so. Therefore, it is still okay to like the 'Mones.

85. Aparently Ann was a big pothead
and dead fan. But just because someone who is vile likes something doesn't mean I should dislike it.

Ann's politics are vile, her musical tastes aren't that bad. But I was astounded to find out she smoked weed (shouldn't it give her the munchies or something?) and was a Dead fan

87. Al and Tipper (let's censor music) Gore are also
Dead fans and for many Deadheads this came as quite a suprise at the time. Who would have thought TIPPER Gore liked the Dead? Weren't they too "druggy" for her puritan sensibilities?

Ann Coulter has vile politics but even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Here's hoping that multiple listenings of Throwing Stones gets her to come away from the Dark Side.

89. Actually, there never was a "Gore Movement" to censor music...
it was merely to add messagesd that some of the music may not be suitable for all ears. Sort of like the Movie ratings. It got bl;own way out of proportion; just like Hillary's Medical Reform did...:)
