Has anyone else had trouble donating to Red Cross/Red Crescent?
I've been trying for a couple of hours and I can't get through.

I guess I can go to another org.

1. Maybe their servers are overloaded due to numerous people donating.
You might want to try again later. I was able to through yesterday.

3. Well that's good I guess. The more people the better.
Sometimes I wonder if it's my browser. It acts funny somtimes on secure sites like that.

I'll just try again tomorrow.

6. I can get the web page up. Is this the web address you used:
http://www.donate.ifrc.org/

It comes up for me fine right now.

9. The site comes up fine, but when..
...I try to send the initial donation page (to World Pay) it can't connect to the server.

10. Yes, I can connect to the worldpay secure server, too.
It's the page where they ask for the card details. Maybe it has something to do with your browser settings, but I'm just guessing.

11. Oh. OK.
Thanks for checking that for me.

I'll just give to MSF instead. They're working in the hardest hit regions (the Aceh region). Many people have suggested donations to them.

Thanks

2. Contact your local Red Cross chapter.
They'll have a web site and/or phone banks that won't be getting so swamped. And they'll get your money to the Int'n'l RC/RC.

Just look in the phone book. They probably have operators 24-7 during an emergency like this.

7. You can give to Red Cross through Amazon.com
All of the money goes directly to Red Cross. Took me one minute. Very easy to do.

8. Doctors Without Borders was a breeze
and 1 minute later, I had a confirming email from them and a nice thank-you.

They are updating daily on their efforts in the tsumani-stricken areas.

12. Sorry,
Maybe they have done some good things, but I've been turned off by the Red Cross for a loooong time. My Dad was a Marine in WWII, Master gunny, South Pacific. Anyway, inbetween battles like Beauganville and Iwo, there would be time out. And guess who was serving the coffee? You bet, the Red Cross. Guess what else? They made the GI's PAY for the coffee. Bullshit.

Not to mention the bullshit in San Diego, where they pocketed the money for the the fire victims and were livin like kings at whooping $400,000.00 a year salaries and perks in condos in Coronada and La Jolla.

Oh yea, they supposedly cleaned up their act.

Find another group.
