Computer Geeks Parte Deux!!!
OK, This was my original post,

"I have a computer at home, which is eaten up by trojan viruses. Printer functions don't work. Can't set a homepage for. It always goes directly to a spyware or seach site. I have had 3 different virus programs on it, and each identifies different trojan viruses, and says that they are deleting them, but they come right back within seconds. Its not even functional anymore.

Can I reformat the Drive C and just reinstall Windows XP on it? And if I do format it, will that get rid of all the viruses? I've got a lot of info on it already backed up on other computers so I don't mind if I have to wipe the whole damn thing out. Please help! My computer knowledge is about mid-level, so please don't get to technical on me.

Thanks anyone for help!"

Well, after an hour and a half of trying to reformat my disc, it won't let me do it!!
 It says it can't reformat while programs are in use on this drive, or a program is running on the drive! Well, I've gone out of every program, shut down the all the spyware, virus stuff, and every thing else that didn't keep me from getting the trojan stuff in the first place!!! Are there any suggestions from anyone on how I can reformat this damn thing, or is this hard drive history.

Thanks for any help,
A frustrated Robeson :argh:

1. Just install WinXP

and it will format at your prompt..

(meaning, slap the CD into the drive, reboot, and when it asks to boot from CD, do it)

4. I tried redoing Windows XP. It still does the same thing. Always goes..
...back to those wonderful spyware adds when i try to get on the net, it won't even let me get to XP upgrade, so that i can upgrade my hardware. Its worse than ever. I think I may be looking at a new hard drive...

...I like to do computer games. So after this experience, I think I'm going to get 2 hard drives. One for computer games, and one for Linnux. I've had it with this Microsh!t!!!!

8. try booting with the cd in the drive,
it should let you boot off the cd...and thus bring up tyhe format the drive option.

if that doesnt work...go into your bios...should say how to enter it on boot up.

look for the section that says in the order the drives are recognized by windows.

ie: a: c: d:

if d:/ = cd drive, make that the first to be recognized. reboot and let the cd install and format the drive, pick the ntfs format option.

9. Do you know if that would work off of the Windows XP Upgrade?...
Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 02:58 AM by Robeson
...Its not the complete Windows XP program, but the one to use if you've had an earlier edition windows. I do have the complete Windows 98 SE program. Could I access it from there?

Thanks
