military commercials
anyone else being bombarded by "join the army" commercials? What pisses me off is that they are showing all this "fluff" about what it's like to be in the army, they should start showing our troops on the ground in Iraq, now thats what it's really like to be in the army!:grr:

1. Those used to be "Join the Peace Corps" commercials.
Wanting to help people is a noble goal, but signing up to be IED fodder isn't the wisest option.

Those Army commercials disgust me!

2. hopefully most kids
watching those commercials are also aware of what is going on in Iraq, and that if they join they are very likely to be over there soon. The ones I feel most sorry for are the ones who see it as the only economic opportunity they have.

3. Occasionally recruitment flyers pop up in my post office.
Instinctively, I rip them to shreds, along with the cardboard holder, and toss them in the garbage.

5. they've always done that...
e.g. "Be All You Can Be"

It's hard to sell life as a trained killer and make it sound noble, but these reptiles do seem to manage. :eyes:

about once a month, asking of she "is tired of college yet?"

Once I told the poor Joe that I really didn't think she would join the Army, even if she was tired of school. I added that she was working pretty hard in school so she could keep her studenet deferment from the draft.

"But, Sir, there is no draft, and we wouldn't draft women if there was one.", was his reply. Yeah, right. The only women not eligible would be named Barbara and Jenna. I had a bit more fun with him, and had to get back to work...

(spelling edit - too big of a hurry)
