1. You need to know to tell your son's friends to bring lots of money
and pay the dealer everytime they ante up! :-)

5. We're supplying the cash
Each boy gets a baggie w/two rolls of pennies to start the evening. They each get to take their winnings home.

3. Here's the scoop
Get a disk and call it the "button"
Put the button in front of somebody
Have players choose ante amounts
Ante: Person to the left of the dealer puts in ante (small blind)
Person to the left of the samll blind puts in twice the amount of the small blind (big or large blind)

Deal two cards to each person (clockwise) ending at the button holder

Betting Round 1: One round of betting starting with the person next to the big blind and ending with the big blind. Antes of the small and big blinds are considered bets. The small blind opened and the big blind raised. Anyone desiring to call will have to match the big blind. They may raise - maximum 3 raises per round (total - not per player).

Burn three cards face down

Place next 3 cards face up on the table (all players play these cards)

Betting Round 2: same as round 1

Burn 1 Card

Place next 1 card in line with the other 3

Betting Round 3: same as round 1

Burn 1 Card

Place next 1 card in line with other 4 (total 5 cards on table)

Betting Round 4: same as other rounds

End of game... Each player plays the best 5 cards

Any suggestions for Black Jack? I fear after one game of poker the boys may want something less painful (or is it?) :silly:

28. It's not as complicated as it sounds.
It is a pretty easy game. As dealer, all you have to do is keep track of where to start dealing and put out three, one, and one cards.

Of course, if someone goes all-in and others with more money continue to bet, you have to keep track of the side pot.

34. Side pots are really about the only complicated thing in the game...
I'd suggest one of the MANY texas hold-em sites out there to get a good grasp of the rules.

6. No sense giving them the good whisky
If they're playing Texas Hold 'Em, they should be drinking a similar whisky. Wild Turkey, perhaps. Don't be giving 'em the pricey stuff, since they're just gonna throw it up anyway.

Of course - why bother sharing any at all!

You also might want to take their sidearms from them before they start playing.

someone's losing more often than they should, feelings that maybe someone is cheating, a verbal confrontation and then a quick and utter escalation into a total bat-swinging brawl! Then one of the kids takes his glass and smashes the rim of it on the table, spraying glass, and then wields the jagged-edged thing as another weapon. Soon it's three against one! That would totally RAWK!

Just like the old west!

THAT'S how you play a f-ing game of poker.

21. You should pick up a copy of
"The Little Black Book of Poker"

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?isbn=0880885734&itm=2

Great quick reference for hand rankings, etc.

31. But what if you call Uno? Where does that fit in? Is that above
a Royal Flush?

And what about Rummy?

And when can you offer a "go fish"?

Your listing of possible poker hands is sorely lacking these important ones. I can't believe you're going to running a tournament.

32. You should make up some new rules...
and then pretend like "real" poker players would already know about those rules. What's the point of having a teenager if you can't pull pranks on them every now and then for sheer amusement when their friends are over????

turn them into the dealer and get two new cards. Jesus, you're a dumbass."

And

"Your three of a kind isn't worth squat because you didn't call fizzbin before placing your second call bet, dumbass."
