The War of the Roses...still one of the best movies ever.
It was on tv last night...my son watched it with me. (I had to make him turn his head during the bite scene in the attic).

But would DUers agree that the chemistry between Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner in that movie is what made it one of the best dark comedies in the history of film?

1. Too dark for me, I guess.
Saw it when it came out. I didn't find it funny at all.

2. That was a
horrible movie. Too dark, not very humerous. Depressing. Hell, I've got 'real life', why do I want to spend my precious free time watching a bunch of losers destroy their lives???

8. So, according to your logic, since you have a real life...
you don't have time to watch any movies?

12. You misunderstood me.
'Real life' is depressing enough. I don't need any help. And if I was totally happy, I still wouldn't want to be depressed.

While I read more complex books, for a movie my criticism is simple. There's a good guy, a bad guy, and a girl. At the end of the movie the good guy's got the girl, and the bad guy is dead. The more it deviates from this simple formula, the less likely I am to watch it. The reason is also simple, I read for education and learning. Movies, for me, should be sheer escapism. Other people have other ideas, of course. That's cool. No one is making me go to movies I don't want to watch.

3. Well, I certainly enjoyed it but I am both perverse & eccentric.

So I guess that doesn't mean as much as if someone TIGHTASSED and MUNDANE threw in their $.02 in support.

10. Remember what Danny DeVito drew as the lesson of this tragedy...
Who remembers but his aside was priceless: that dog people should marry dog people and cat people should marry cat people.

"Woof," said Kathleen Turner. I love Kathleen Turner and have never struck a woman yet I would have punched her out for that 'woof'. "Woof, hell ..." BAM! Bitch goes down.

4. That film was totally inaccurate!
It doesn't even mention Richard III or the battle of Towton! How can you have a movie about the War of the Roses without Richard III? Bloody Hollywood.

7. My favorite gotcha was when Kathleen ran over his "Morgan" with...
her 4x4. :-)
