Deathlist 2005 is up and running!

I saw a link to the England-based Deathlist after Reagan died. They went 12/50 in predicting people who would die in 2004, after a record 14 in 2003.

What is Deathlist? In their words...

The DeathList committee draws up DeathList at the end of each year with the objective selecting the most celebrities who will die in the next calendar year. The list comprises 50 celebrities, with no more than 25 who appeared on the previous year's list.

Of note:

  • The Pope tops the list for the second year in a row. Warren Zevon topped the 2003 list.
  • Look who debuts at #7. Same with #26, 28, 46, and 50.
  • No surprise about Galbraith.
  • Where's Margaret Thatcher? She couldn't travel to the US to eulogize Reagan.
  • What is Liz Taylor doing there?

8. something to do with her heart, I think
congestive heart failure?? That's all my brain is coming up with, but I did hear something fairly recently about her health, sometime in the last month or so.

Surprisingly, Doohan isn't even Scottish.

He's a randy old bugger too, he and his wife spent some more time in the Jeffries tube and had another kid in April 2000, making him a Dad again at 80. His wife is 43.

Doohan Trivia:

Most noteable points:

- He is missing the middle finger of his right hand.

- According to the Director's Edition DVD of Star Trek the Motion Picture, the Klingon language first introduced in that movie and later featured in many later Trek movies and TV episodes, was initially devised by Doohan. His original sounds were later expanded upon and refined by others, ultimately resulting in Shakespeare plays and The Bible being translated into Klingon years later.

All in all, I won't be crying when Thatcher turns back into a pumpkin.
