Sunday afternoon, Martini in hand, wearing a suit, putting on Bogart movie
Does life get any better than that?

Gonna watch Maltese Falcon (in "widescreen", such as it was back then (there's about a 1/4 inch of black on the top and bottom)) and then Casablanca, which I also purchased in "widescreen" (such as it was back then) version.

What an afternoon!!

I have a feeling there will be a nap involved somewhere in the middle of this.

God, I love Bogart. And I finally bought some Bogart DVDs. Got the two of these on sale at that mall-based abomination called "Sunset Movies" or something, but they were on sale together for $20 and they're both the fancy versions.

WOO HOO!!

Heck, I will likely even have a cigarette with Bogart at some point, even though I'm not much of a smoker.

many years ago, before I moved to NYC and never celebrated New Year's Eve at home any more, my new year's eve and day tradition was to hang out, drink a lot of Old Fashioneds and martinis, and overdose on every Bogart film I had - and often, it seemed, either AMC or WGN or someone would have a Bogart festival on either the Eve or the Day. I really missed it this year, so bought these on New Year's Day.

Now I really have to get my favorite all-time Bogart film - To Have and Have Not.

1. Wearing a suit to watch a movie at home - true dedication
I love Casablanca and To Have and Have Not - great choices. Sounds like a splendid afternoon to me.

3. Lauren Becall is the hottest of the hot hotties
and Audrey Hepburn is the hottest of the gorgeous hot hotties.

Rowr rowr on both. Too bad Audrey wasn't the one in African Queen. But then, she couldn't have pulled off the attitude that Katherine gave it. Goddamn, what a great movie.

:-)

Gotta wear a suit when having Martinis and watching Bogart's "suit" movies on a Sunday afternoon.

Were I watching his non-suit movies (Sierra Madre, African Queen, etc.), of course I wouldn't wear a suit.

What is it about Bogart movies that they're all fricking brilliant?

6. Her biography was interesting too
Very beautiful, but my tastes run more to Cary Grant.

Suit movies - I love that. I totally want to come to the next showing. Much better than watching movies in your jammies.

9. Cary Grant - my other favorite actor
I love the guy, and I love his movies.

I wish I could get a full set of Grant movie DVDs. I haven't seen anything he's done that I didn't like; or at least didn't like him in it. That Cat Burglar movie was kinda thin, but he rocked in it.

2. I just received Casablanca for Christmas.
My husband's going out to clean out the garage and the kids are napping, so I might just go sack out on the couch and watch it.

5. No, no pate
sad, isn't it? But Bogart isn't really pate material, is he?

:-)

He's more of a whisky and steak event, I think. I might pull out some of the beef sausage I have...

sadly, I didn't really plan the food properly. I have a vat of bean soup and some tostitos and salsa, neither of which are really "Maltese Falcon" stuff.

Oh, well... next year...

7. sounds like a terrific afternoon even so
I agree about the steak & whiskey.

When Turner colorized 'Casablanca' some idiot decided that the glass of whiskey Bogie carried through the bar should be a faint pink -- like a wine spritzer. I think I threw something at the screen.

11. OMG!
I'm grateful I never saw that abomination!

I'd have had a conniption, too.

Faint pink my ass. He drank whisky. Or bourbon. Or whatever equivalent. But he certainly didn't drink anything "pink".

Sounds like you're having a very good day. Tenacious D is on right now and I'm snacking on buffalo wings and hanging out at the lounge. Life is good!
