What's the big deal about Garden State?

I saw it and I thought it was good, but I heard people raving about how good it was.

Yes, its good that Zach Braff takes his shirt off several times, but other than that...

1. People like different things

I'm sure there are things you love that other people just liked or even despised. No one on the DU message board is going to be able to explain something about the movie and then you say "Oh yeah, I loved that movie after all". Just take it as it is and move on. ;-)

3. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

I admit that I'm a sucker for artsy-fartsy romantic comedies (I also loved "Punch-Drunk Love"), but I thought that "Garden State" had great characters, terrific performances (especially from Natalie Portman), and a killer soundtrack that I bought as soon as I got out of the theater.

I bought the film on Tuesday. I've seen it three times now. Only the very ending falls a little flat.

Zach Braff will get a best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination for this, I'm sure.
