Finally, I fixed my computer. It had gotten a virus.
Sunday I woke up to find that even with a Norton Anti-virus program, one of my computers had a virus. This nasty thing has changed ALL of the Windows and Microsoft programs fonts to Marlet font. That is a font that has only symbols, no letters like we normally use. And all other fonts in the system had been erased. XP's System Restore didn't work. Finally, after two days of working on it, everything is back to normal, and no data was lost. Although a few pages will have to be manually typed in. (I had kept paper copies of the really important stuff.)
