In addition to the fact that I wasn't old enough to even be remotely aware of music while they were big, I find it hard to take seriously someone who can never quite decide whether to shave daily or to grow a beard (i.e. it seems like George always had the same length of scruff) :shrug:

I think a "WHAM" litmus test would be perfectly okay for voting eligibility. Though I think the "Do you like FullScreen DVDs?" litmus test is much better.

But let's face it, WHAM sucked. Totally sucked. Pure shit. And George Michael has as much talent in his entire body as, just to grab an example at random, my shit contains bars of gold-pressed latinum.

GM is nothing more than a corporatized pretty-boy designed to sell records by his looks alone, and he's a total fake.

Hell, even Billy Joel is better than him.

He sucks. That's what's wrong with him. He used to not suck - a long, long time ago, but then he decided that instead of doing music, he'd try to do pop rock&roll, sell his soul, and give up his integrity and his creative vision. Then a few years later he went to Russia for a big concert, made a shitload of money, and continues to suck.

He is easily the most over-rated long-term performer in Rock & Roll that has ever been. Though with Bon Jovi's and George Michael's longevity, there will be some new people joining the ranks of long-term over-rated crap.

At least KISS admitted that their music was just for shits and giggles and for the show and spectacle of it all and was never meant to be taken as serious salon-worthy art music.

Actually, I don't care if he is, I just like his music! Hell, I bet we have a ton of people in the lounge that get excited when "genie in a bottle" comes on the radio (although they would never admit it), but I would never call it musical art!

I had such fun at his concert. It isn't every day someone like Elton John plays a show in this hell hole town! :)

he was a creative genius, and there are many people who believe that he is.

And that's the real problem.

I don't mind if you enjoy him - we all have our dark sides, and different things for different people. My dark side is that I really love The Sound of Music. So you can have your Billy Joel, especially since you know he isn't a creative genius. That's the only real requirement - so long as you know what he is, then enjoy the heck out of it.

Best thing that Rogers and Hammerstein (or whatever group it was) wrote. And that's not necessarily saying much.

But, by golly, I have the extended DVD version of it, and I'll defend it to my death. Well, not quite my death. But close. To the point of "severe hurt" perhaps. But once they put the electrical clamps on my testicles, the DVD goes into the recycler happily and without regret. Sorry folks.

I can't help it, I like the music, just for the sake of it being catchy and fun! And as for the Sound of Music, your secret is safe with me ;)
