What is your favorite response to flamebait posts/threads?
Edited on Sun Sep-28-03 10:55 PM by WilliamPitt
Sometimes I ignore.

I sometimes get all riled up and wade it.

For a while I'd just say, "I've got your face."

Now, my favorite response is, "aahhhhhh duuuuuhhhh pzzzzzzzcheeeeeeezzzzzzz."

For some reason, it just seems appropriate.

:)

You?

22. GAspnes and Wonk are the only way to go
just post as if the offensive post did not exist.

Figure they mostly want attention so here is the moof comeback but it has yet to be used as silence has always seemed the better option.

" sorry for the slow response, had to add another name to my ignore list ".

18. Yep.
I manage the sound of silence 90% of the time. If we don't feed them, they won't thrive.

I sometimes rebut; sometimes "ignore," if it is a poster with a pattern of flames; sometimes alert, and sometimes respond as if they'd said something sweet and nice. Just to confuse them.

4. I can't believe there are so many arguments
Here we have a gem of a scandal that we need to nourish, and people are ignoring it. How can we expect the media and DOJ to stick the WH with this if we can't even group about this one?

5. I loudly ignore them
If the title seems like flamebait -- especially concerning candidates -- I don't even click. In fact, I don't even click AT the poster.

I see no reason to raise my bloodpressure and read responses that are sometimes indistinguishable from Freeper responses. I can always, oh, clip my toenails instead.

to put my foot in my mouth. Hey, at least I admit it!

As far as candidate-bashing threads, I just ignore them.

8. Sometimes, if I'm in just the right mood,
I craft an elegantly-worded slam.

Usually, I laugh at the pathetic nature of such a post, make a mental note of frequent authors and move along.

9. I try to reason with calm, insightful responses but
it really hasn't come up for me that much. Pretty much I stay out of threads I think will be bashers. Although, I was responded to a with "this is annoying" once, so I replied "So, stop saying that!" If all else fails, it's humor, I suppose.

14. I feel angry but I tend to lecture in response.
Or maybe I scold. I guess that is my way of containing my feelings. I can be really mouthy at times....I occasionally work as a prison nurse and you just have to draw the line in the sand there. I'm very good at it too! I have the C.O's laughing all the time.

I don't share that part of myself here.

I also display bitter sarcasm too. I own it. Always in response to a flame only.

19. I try to respond, sometimes successful
other times NOT. In this forum it doesnt matter does it? If a Mod decides I am losing they decide to tombstone whoever that is. A friend of mine asked a simple question. Flat tax and he never got disruptive or anything. He was asking for advise and ideas. Look it up in your archives under "turdinthepunchbowl". I never even had a discussion with him about this but. I read the thread and he did NOTHING to be tombstoned.

I enjoy being a member here and I understand this might make you mad. But please read that thread (I have) and he said nothing to get him banned. Even one of our members 4 days ago sent it back to the front page.

Sorry I am going off. Just seems that you all are not willing to even discuss ideas that are maybe a lil different then yours.

I dont even have a personnal opinion(my friend didnt either) on this. But you tombstoned him for asking and that was WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:toast:

Actually, these days, I just ignore them. I am quite fond of one of the candidates, but I am so sick of reading the "he said" "he did" "he didn't do" crap, I can't even deal.

How about those Red Sox, hm?

p.s. It looks like Mike Cameron wants to go elsewhere. If Edgar retires on top of it, I may have to partake of some of BartCop's favorite libation. Hell, I may have to drink the entire bottle.

If replies to the flame bait are backed up with facts and/or links...the threads don't usually last very long.

If that doesn't work there is always the ignore feature...:)

28. My favorite Response
To flamebait threads is to make a point of posting a response to EVERY other thread in GD that I think is valuable at all, whether I have an opinion on the topic or not. I think kicking them down and off the front page is the only way I can vote against them.

I know what's good for my blood pressure and what's not. I read LBN candidate posts, but only read until I see the thread start to deteriorate, which it always does, it seems.

without kicking. If he's able to add a checkbox for this, I'd definitely respond (derisively) to many more flamebait threads. Otherwise, you're kicking it to the top, rewarding the assclown, and who wants to do that?

33. For The OBVIOUS Ones... I Just Add The Author To My Ignore File.
Even though those types of messages are frequently within official tolerable levels... they are "obvious" to me. They are definitely clever enough to fly just under the radar and they know (through trial and error) how to make a thread sound like a genuine message... yet they also know what the hot button issues and phrases are to set off a flurry of angry responses.

My iggy file contains about 20 names now, and GD is INFINITELY more enjoyable and manageable.

Oddly enough... the names that I've ignored will rarely (RARELY!) appear in other threads as "ignored".

I've had some time to reflect on this unfair practice of mine... I know it's a knee-jerk reaction to what's hopefully a temporary phase in GD (kind of like sunspots). --- And with that in mind, I've already made up my mind that I'll clean out my iggy file in a couple of weeks.

If necessary, I'll just start the whole process over again.

Am I being too harsh? (Not that these flame baiters care or anything.)

34. perhaps a quote from Homer Simpson
would be nice to confuse the flamethrower.

I usually fall for the bait and attempt to argue my case. I am a sucker for historical accuracy, and historical topics are where I usually end up being flamed because often I say things people do not want to hear.
