Scissor Sisters album is a cut above the rest
Times
By Adam Sherwin, Media Reporter

CAMP New York “electro-sleaze” has proved a surprise hit with music buyers after the success of the bestselling CD of 2004 by Scissor Sisters.
The New York quintet sold 1.59 million albums of its debut release, beating the British band Keane by 582 copies.

Inspired by Elton John, the Bee Gees and 1970s disco, Scissor Sisters recorded a string of hit singles beginning with a dance cover version of Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb that infuriated the band’s fans.

Emerging from New York’s Lower East Side gay scene, the group proved a popular live attraction at British rock festivals last summer, developing a large mainstream audience.

American artists were responsible for half of the ten best- sellers of the year with the Los Angeles rock band Maroon 5 leading Anastacia, Usher and Norah Jones in sales.
