Greatest male voice in rock history?
I've got to go with the inimitable Burton Cummings, (but Freddie Mercury makes it a very tough call).

30. Jackie Leven...
...still performs somewhat regularly in the UK. I saw Doll by Doll a couple of times at the Marquee in the 80's, good band. Did you ever hear the album Leven released in 1975 (in Spain only) under the name Jon St. Field? I think it was actually recorded in 1970 but not released until later. It's called "Control" and is very different from anything else he's done, very psychedelic, his vocals are unmistakeable though. It's been reissued on CD. Phil Ryan from Man plays keyboards on it.
Rock vocalists of note for me are:
Peter Hammill
Paul Rodgers
Steve Winwood
John Lennon

36. I agree, Roy Orbison had the best voice in history for the...
kind of Rock/ballad songs that he sang. (I always felt there was a hint of Country/Western influence in his vocal style.)

As for "scream-it-out-loud" rock ballads---I'd vote for Meatloaf.

10. Tough
I really love Leonard Cohen's voice, but I love Robert Plant's, too.

Eric Burdon is another favorite, as is David Bowie.

No, I simply can't choose. Impossible.

Yoo-hoo, it's me
My name is Pinky Lee
I skip and run with lots of fun
For every he and she.
It's plain to see
That you can tell it's me
With my checkered hat and my checkered coat
The funny giggle in my throat
My funny laugh like a billy goat.
That's it's whooooo
PINKY!

24. Tie: Dio, Plant, Gillan, Jon Anderson, Mercury, Roth, Geddy Lee
Those are my tops, and can't really separate one as better than any other - they're all different, working in different styles of rock.

32. I have a couple candidates
for classic rock, Plant is one of the greatest.

For newer artists, Devin Townsend is probably the best vocalist in rock right now. I've never heard anyone project so much power.

Maynard Keenan gets a nod too.

I have to give Bruce Dickinson an honorable mention as well!

39. one more vote for Chris Cornell
a tremendously talented (and sexy! :P) man, if I do say so myself.

And Chris's friend, the often-imitated Eddie Vedder, deserves a nod as well...another great set of pipes!
